Loved the first one...about half-way through book #2.

I cant imagine how butchered the movies will be in the US .. it will be a mockery.

Agreed...the movie was FANTASTIC and stayed very true to the book. I'm afraid Hollywood will eff it up.

There is another book that is mostly finished as well, I dont remember what language I read the article in, but the family of Larsson is keeping it away from his ex-partner and co-author. It seems that in Sweden partners dont have the right to inherit things.

Anyhow she said that 3/4 of the book was done and she could probably finish it herself, since she had worked on the previous books with him, but his family wont allow it.

Maybe it was on Yahoo news, but I dont know, I read my news primarily in German.

Randy - I read that too, in Entertainment Weekly. Apparently there is a pretty ugly, bitter fight going on between Steig's partner and his father & brother. They're fighting over money, future income and the rights to the work he left behind.

Nightline interviewed her on Friday and she said there "might" be another book and that she didn't co-author them; she just inspired him. I wondered if she was lying myself.

The interview is on their front page still.

I have not read any of the books. My wife has read the first one and is halfway through teh second one.

We watched the Swedish version of the first one this weekend and thought it was great.

The moral of the story: don't f' with Lisbeth!

The first two movies are very good in the fact of how well they represent the book. But I think the actors themselves did a pretty mediocre job of representing the characters. The girl who played Lisbeth did a good job for the most part, but the man who played Bloomkvist wasn't very good, nor was the woman who played Erika Berger.

I am not as skeptical about the American version. I see Daniel Craig playing the role of Bloomkvist very well. He more closely fits what I took from the books as what Bloomkvist would be like.

As I posted before, the third movie was absolutely terrible with how they butchered the book. And it's surprising because the 2nd and 3rd movies have the same director and screen writer.

So far the 3 people listed as cast members on the new movie, I think are great choices. Robin Wright as Berger, Craig, and Skellan Skarsgard listed as Vanger. My guess is he'll play Martin.

The biggest issue is who is going to play Lisbeth. That's where they will probably **** it up.

I saw the first movie on Netflix Instant play, and will see the the second movie at the movie theater. Where is the 3rd movie that people have already seen?

Tejas, I got the 3rd movie from a torrent.

flipper, you might be correct. The casting of Salander has to be perfect or the movie will be an epic fail.

Read the book and loved it.

I pictured somebody like Winona Rider for the lead. Or the fiance from High Fidelity, I believe she's Swedish too. Both of them are too old for the role now.

I had a guy like Jason Robards in mind for role of patriach.
La Fours
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Robards would have been a great choice for Henrik.

I keep getting things from the different book sellers wanting me to buy it, but....without "Spoiling"..is this a Murder Mystery?? or what. The discriptions are rather vague.

Yes, it's murder mystery at it's core. But the 3-4 major characters are all very interesting. It's also very well written, much better than typical mystery.

EMMA WATSON's dodgy new barnet is more than a ropey fashion statement - it's an attempt to land the biggest vacant role in Hollywood.
The actress is screen-testing for the lead in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, based on the best-selling STIEG LARSSON novel.

And just like her Harry Potter character Hermione Granger, she's leaving nothing to chance to land the gig as computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.

Emma shocked fans last week when she showed off a new pixie hairstyle.

Interesting

A representative for Harry Potter star Emma Watson has denied reports that the actress is auditioning for the lead role in an upcoming big screen adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Watson, 20, had sparked speculation she was trying for the role of edgy computer hacker Lisbeth Salander after she debuted a short pixie hairstyle earlier this month, the Daily Express reported.

LOS ANGELES – Newcomer Rooney Mara has landed one of the most-coveted roles in Hollywood, co-starring alongside James Bond star Daniel Craig in the English-language remake of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."

I think Rooney Mara has the necessary look for playing Salander. She's pretty in an unconventional way. And not overly attractive, but has a charm about her.

I thought the book was better than the movie, as is often the case. Too many corners were cut. Wifey and I couldn't figure out why the director would omit some of the things he did.

I was just given this book by a friend. I knew nothing of it before she handed it to me other than it was a Best Seller. I have read the first 2 chapters and cannot seem to get into it. Does it take a little while to develop or is it just "not for me"?

Its not bad by any means, but the praise has been high and I have expected a super page turner... Should I trek on?

Honestly, I cannot remember if it took a couple of chapters for me to get into it or not. I think it did, but I loved it and could not put it down once I got into it. I would give it a couple more chapters before giving up on it.

I absolutely loved all 3 books but if I hadn't been stuck on a plane with nothing else to read, I don't think I would have made it through the first 50 pages of the first one.

It starts out very slow and there is so much weird Swedish stuff that I almost put it down. Keep going! It's much better once you get past the trial and all that stuff.

I just finished the second book in the series and I'm starting the 3rd.

It does take a while to get started, but once it does, it's quite enjoyable. It reminded me of the movie Crash where there are a number of different stories that seem completely unrelated that all tie together in the end. The book has to lay out all those stories, but it will make sense down the road. And the synopsis on the back is really just 1/2 the book. There's another story which you are just now going through that leads to the murder mystery.

And for anyone who's still reading the first book, here are two maps that you will probably want to print out and keep in the book.

http://www.sallysfriends.net/nest/the-missing-map-from-tattoo/

For some reason, they weren't included in the English translation, but where in the original Swedish version.
