As a lot of you know, I'm not much of a fan of today's comedy.... The Will Ferrells and Ben Stillers of the world are just not funny..... However, I just saw The Hangover Saturday night..... Wow, this is a GREAT comedy! Major homerun!

Overrated.
I get the feeling that the people who thought The Hangover was the funniest movie in years:
1) never saw Todd Phillips' earlier efforts, Road Trip and Old School, or
2) were unaware of Zach Galifinakis's existence.
The Hangover was basically jokes from Road Trip and Old School + Galifinakis humor. It certainly wasn't unfunny, but I think it pales in comparison to the earlier Todd Phillips movies.
quote:No, there is a right and a wrong, and you are clearly wrong. I jest... we're discussing the merits of a screwball comedy. All serious assessments are out the door.
Maybe instead of trying to generalize people by what your narrow mind thought of a movie, you just accept that different people have different tastes and there is no right and wrong?

It seems like the movie goes out of its way to not give you the back story to why all these crazy things happened, choosing instead to build it up for a payoff during the closing credits. I think actually seeing those wacky events unfold would've been funnier.

I liked Ed Helms and Galifinakis, but I thought Bradley Cooper was out of place.
quote:On this we agree. Breckin Meyer is pretty much the worst thing to happen to film and TV.
Road Trip had kind of a lame central character of its own
quote:He reminds me too much of Will Arnett, but he doesn't play a Will Arnett type of role. It's like casting Jesse Eisenberg (poor man's Michael Cera) to play a non-Cera-esque role.
Cooper was the main character and I thought he was the best
quote:Cool beans.
but as for the debate for funniest movie in a long time, there can be only one...
quote:
What makes no sense is that chick endlessly rips on Will Ferrell, yet liked Hangover, which was essentially the exact type of movie he criticizes Ferrell for.
IMO, you can't like Hangover but dislike Old School, or vice versa. You either like them both or not. But one without the other makes zero sense.
