it's hilarious that people think zoey deschannel is too pretty to play janis joplin. is everyone forgetting that we're talking about hollywood? i heard they're doing some pretty cool things with makeup these days. you know, like getting charlize theron to play aileen wuornos.

In terms of looks and looks alone Joplin was pretty homely alright. But she had a personality and raw sexuality that was pretty hot. If you've only seen still pictures and heard recordings you're not going to get it.

The singing in performance scenes are going to be really problematic. I doubt there is anyone out there who can nail her music *and* be able to act.

I would nominate Juliette Lewis though. She's a really good actress for wild parts (e.g. Natural Born Killers) and for the past few years she's been performing with her band(s) and actually pulling it off unlike many other actors-turned-rockers. And she's got the sexy-homely thing going on not unlike Joplin.

If you don't like her music, that's fine, it's not for everyone. I am a HUGE fan and can't get enough. The strength, emotion and passion she put into her music blows me away. Of course she wasn't a polished singer. That's one of the things I like most.

I hope a movie does her justice, but knowing Hollywood, it isn't likely.

I don't know, but she had better be heart breaking ugly and sing from her soul.

Dana Fuchs (the singer from 'Across The Universe') would be the perfect choice. Plus, she has the vocal abilities to match the demands of the part.
