It sounds great! W/the active/passive pickups and dual/single coil switch the tone range is awesome.

I have heard that they make great guitars, but the pickups are a bit weak and thin.

What do you think about the pups?

So far so good. I like it. There seems to be a lot of high end and the low end really growls.

I'd heard also that their pups weren't that great. They seem fine to me. Will I change them in the future? Likely, but I like to tinker with things anyway so I don't know that any guitar comes with pups that I'd definitely keep.

They can sound a little sterile. Even though there is a ton of distortion, they still sound very crisp. It's 6 to one 1/2 dozen to another - you want it to ooze distortion but you also want to be able to make out what you're playing. Does it have the infamous ~brown~ sound? No. They could have a higher output in the middle of that makes sense. I get the feeling that controlled feedback w/them would be difficult, but that could be my amp - mid 90's Marshall Valvestate - I know, you're drooling *sarcasm* It is hard to say what I'd change about the sound - I'm going to eventually be running it through some processors anyway so I can always fine tune the tone.

Having said that, it has great sustain and the electronics configuration allows a huge tonal range. The playability is nutso as is the quality of the build.

One of my best friends has a guitar collection most would kill for and I can definitely say this guitar plays as well as if not better than most. He has a Peavey Wolfgang Standard Deluxe, a Jackson Phil Collen, a Steinberger, American Strat, Warmoth, etc. All phenomenal guitars. The neck on this one is better. Maybe he likes his action higher, thicker gauge strings, I don't know but this guitar feels smoother in my hands. It is thicker than an Ibanez, which I find too thin, but not by much.
