Great song but how about a National Anthem for Oklahoma not the whole nation. Folks in NY and boston won't get this song I'm afraid.

Great song.

And if you've heard much of his stuff of his last two records, the analysis of this song should come as no surprise (namely "We Can't Make it Here" from Childish Things and "God Bless America" from Just Us Kids).

Another genius song off of Childish Things is "Holiday."

The song makes me sad but I love it. It captures everything that is wrong about the "holiday season."

McMurtry is outstanding.

He is the real deal. His first release, Too Long in the Wasteland, back around 1990 or so is one of my alltime favorites.

There's a ghost of a moon in the afternoon

Lyrical genius is McMurt. I want to see him play at the continental club in Austin but he only plays like midnights on a tuesday or something.

I try to see McMurtry every chance I get. The midnight Continental Club gig can sometimes be a beating because of the drunk frat dooooshes.

I saw him at the Continental Club a few years ago. I have to admit I was only mildly intrigued before I saw him live. Since then, I've become a big fan.
