and I looked it up on wiki. It says it is set in Dallas, TX. What in the movie would indicate that to be true? They seem to have specifically made the license plates generic so as not to give away the location. Are there buildings that people recognized or something?

It was filmed off 635 I believe. Never watched with enough attention to prove it was or it wasn't filmed there. I know his neighbor did say he was doing the dry wall at a mcdonald's in las colinas.

First 10 secs are 635 and Preston-ish if I am not mistaken

Yeah, the scene on the highway is 635, and if you pay close attention you can see an exit sign for Preston.

I thought the majority of it was filmed in Austin, with the traffic clips shot in Dallas.

At least a little bit of it was filmed around Las Colinas as well.

The Alligator Grill in Austin was the set for the "flair" scenes. The highway scene is Dallas.

So basically it wasn't intended to be set in any particular place, but if you know Austin and Dallas, you can recognize it.

There was a 10th Anniversary Screening of Office Space at The Paramount in downtown Austin a few weeks back.

In a Q&A after the show, Mike Judge said that the entire film except for two or three scenes (the highway scene was one he mentioned, I think) was filmed in Austin.

The scene where they are walking through the drainage ditch back to the office has always looked like Las Colinas to me.

Two of my friends were extras in the office party scene, which was filmed in Austin.

This is a link to a map of where the building is that served for many outside shots of Initech

The first scene is the traffic jam on 635 where tollway traffic, montfort, traffic and 635 had to merge into 1 lane. They've fixed that traffic flow problem.

That is so wrong. He says Vas Covinas. Watch it with subtitles. The script may have been Las Colinas, but that's not what he says.

He says Las Colinas. I don't care what the subtitles say. I'm not hearing impaired.

It's Vas Covinas. How did I know he said Vas Covinas prior to the Subtitles?

Just before the :30 mark. Sounds to me like he says "Las Colitas", but he may be saying "Las Colinas". One things for sure though, he sure as hell isn't saying "Vas Covinas"

I always thought he said Vas Calindas. It sounds alot like Las Colinas, but I never thought that's exactly what he said.

The Initech building they worked in was located near the Southeast corner of I-35 & Ben White in Austin. The production crew called me up after the filming was over to repair the damage to the brick & landscape from the fire Milton started.

I got to walk around inside the office building as well.

The shots of traffic in the opening scene was of traffic in Dallas...

However, the scene with the guy rapping, and locking his doors, etc.....that was filmed off of Braker lane in Austin.

The office was located in South Austin at the old MCI building. My wife used to work in the very area they used for all of the cubicle, office, and conference room shots.

Yep, right in front of what used to be the giant IBM campus.

All the apartment scenes were shot at an apartment complex I was living in at the time. It is near Braker @ 183, if you continue on Braker West of 183 and go through the Jollyville intersection, it turns into a road called Morado Circle. At the bottom of the hill is the apartment complex it was filmed at. It was called AMLI in Great Hills at the time, but it's changed owners since then I think.

from that site, the traffic scenes were shot: "North side of J.J. Pickle Center along Braker Ln, North Austin."

Fwiw- That is across the street from IBM....like MGS mentioned.
