Why do they still have them? They are useless.

Specifically the ones that say UMD or UMVD on them. I guess this is the company or label (Universal Media Something?) I gringe when I see a CD I bought has a sticker by them. No matter what they ALWAYS leave behind glue/residue/crap. UGH! SO annoying.

Rant over.

Quick tip to help your blood pressure:

Unhinge the bottom corner of the jewel case (aka plastic cover). The cover will now flip over so that you can apply even pressure on the film and the film will come off without ripping and you should avoid the residue. If residue does remain, goo gone or lemon juice will take care of it.

Yeah I use Goo Gone. It's just a minor annoynace that this one brand seems to be a POS, while other ones seem to work perfectly. I bought two cds today, both had this brand sticker, and both were pains in my arse.

it must be the same guy that invented the plastic coated wire ties that they wrap 27 times around each $10 kids toy these days to secure them to the cardboard display box.

UMD and UMVD are essentially the same company. It's the distribution wing of Universal Music.

Not sure I've seen them put a sticker anywhere other than the film before but I haven't bought a CD from a major label in years.

i'm gonna go ahead and be "that guy"

cringe* not gringe

and if you want to take it off in one piece, just pop the front cover off the main part then you can easily separate the two keeping the security sticker in tact

I have purchased a DVD that was plastic wrapped, had stickers closing three sides, and then when I thought I had finally succeeded it still wouldn't open... upon further examination, apparently some DVDs now have built-in clasps.
