Celebrities who...

A) Refer to themselves in the third person or

B) Ask someone, "Do you know who I am?"

...need to be punched in the face to be brought back to reality and get their heads out of the clouds. That being said, I love Seinfeld and still love the show. Lots of people in Hollywood turn into jerks with success. Move along with your life. And Larry King sucks so I care even less.

his tv show is something that he's very proud of, and he obviously took king's comment as a put down of his show. a little bit of an over reaction, but i think jerry is probably defensive of his show.

"something that that he's proud of"...yeah, I think I could look back at that and say "I did good".

I can see where Lance is coming from. The first time I ever saw Seinfeld, he was whining in that horrible high pitched voice at the table about ponies. I thought it was the most annoying thing I'd ever seen and thought everyone was crazy for liking that crap.

5 years later my wife is watching another episode and I loved it. Got into the show after that but that's just b/c I finally gave it a chance.

I love that my little rant (that took me under a minute to write, not 3 hours because I'm not a stupid Neanderthal like the poster that assumed I took forever to write a WHOLE PARAGRAPH) has everyone juggling Seinfeld's nuts because someone dared to come out and say that he isn't funny.

The overreaction to harmless commentary experiment has come full circle.

Yes Seinfeld is a gigantic *******.

http://urbansemiotic.com/2007/10/22/shunning-jerry-seinfeld-and-his-stolen-sycophant-wife/

He tried to sleep with a freaking 17 year old girl and then he stole a man's wife right after their honeymoon all the while knowing exactly what was going on. I really don't see how anyone can view him as a nice guy or even a decent guy. He's a creep and thinks he is God's gift to Earth even though he is now irrelevant in the comedy world.

Seinfeld was funny in spite of Seinfeld, George and Kramer made the show. Both of their characters were greatness while Seinfeld's character was pretty bland. He was the main reason why I never got into the show even though I loved the other characters.

what kind of a joke website is that?

Vander, seinfeld was the "straight man" on the show. Most comedies have them.

And his 17 year old girlfriend was worth any jailtime he may have risked. She was/is rediculous.

That was the 1st website I found with that information on it, but I didn't hear about that stuff from there. The information about both of those incidencies are everywhere.

That still doesn't change the fact that his character was far inferior to both Kramer and George.

Also I can think of numerous other comedies where the straight man character is easily the best character on the show (e.g. Sam Malone, Al Bundy).

He's still 20 years older than she is and has no business at all trying to sleep with someone under the age of 18 regardless of how hot she is. If some guy down the street from you did it, he would be considered an incredible creep and possibly a paedophile but because Jerry Seinfeld did it, it's ok because he's just trying to bang a hot girl. Bull**** and it's ridiculous that you even think it's even remotely ok.

I'm trying really hard to figure out why anyone could possibly care that much about this. I'm guessing there's a handful of people out there who didn't like the show for some reason, and now they are taking out their frustrations for being left out for all these years. Am I right? Anybody else have a guess?

You think Sam Malone is the straight guy in Cheers? Did you ever actually watch the show?

And I don't think not liking Seinfeld makes you an idiot, I just think it means you have a really chitty sense of humor.

As far as his response to Larry King, I think King deserved worse than he got. It's a matter of professionalism, and King displayed a huge lack of it in that interview. I doubt Larry would have been happy with Jerry if Jerry would have called and cancelled the interview fifteen minutes before airtime, at the same time, King should at least have the decency to do 20 minutes of prep before interviewing somebody, especially somebody like Jerry Seinfeld - who is considered by just about EVERY major comedian to be one of the absolute masters of stand-up comedy. Chris Rock and Artie Lang are just two off the top of my head who think the guy hung the moon.

I finally watched this and this is immediately became the dumbest post ever. Jerry was making fun of King sleepwalking through the interview as he is known to do.

I thought it was funny and tame really.

BTW, Al Bundy wasn't the "straight man" either. I don't think you know what that means. I'm not sure that show even had one. The son maybe or the neighbor lady.

Then what the hell is a straight guy then in a sitcom? If it's not someone who is extremely manly and a typical American male (Al Bundy) or someone who can get any woman he wants and who played a sport professionally (Sam Malone) then what is it? Because I don't know about but both of those guys fits the stereotypical straight male pretty well. That is unless it means something completely different in a comedy (I really think you made it up).

Also I don't really have a vendetta against Seinfeld, I just can't ****ing stand him as a comedian. I've hated everything he has ever done because it's just not funny at all. I could list 100s of comedians who are significantly better than he ever was.
TennAg

the "straight man" is a term used in the entertainment business for a character in a comedy that's not really funny per se but actually a fairly normal person. That normal person serves as a contrast to the true characters of the program.

e.g. Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond, the girl lead character in Cheers, Jerry from Seinfield, Cheryl from According to Jim, Will in Will and Grace, etc.

As you can see, the straight man is not always straight or a man. In fact, the straight man is usually the girl in todays comedies which portray men as buffoons.

It has nothing to do with anatomy. Diane is the straight "guy" in Cheers.

1. Yes Jerry is a jerk. thats very old news

2. Larry was simply doing his job. Asking all the obvious and hard questions. Its what the media does

it was a dumb question, but Jerry let his ego instead of his sense of humor answer the question - and as a result, he looked like the jerk that he is.

Along with the "straight man" comments, that was the point. Jerry was supposed to be this normal guy who was surrounded by these strange people. That's why things like when Jerry and Kramer switched roles after switching apartments was hilarious. Of course the exploits of Kramer and George are funnier. But the real genius of the show was how they all interacted with each other...and Jerry was the glue of that.

About King, how long has it been since Seinfeld was off the air? I only saw the clip...so I don't know what context the show was being talked about. He brought up old crap that wasnt even related to why he was on the show (pimp Bee movie)! I'm sure he can't do any interview anywhere without discussing his departure and end of Seinfeld. I thought it was funny. The "resume" line was excellent.

It reminds me of how I hate sports interviews. They really serve no purpose, and ask the same stupid questions over and over again. Of course, without them, we wouldn't have "Playoffs?!", "Practice", and "Crown em!"
