I want to find a good church in College Station. I don't want to post this on the Religion board because most of the people over there would probably try to get me to join a cult. I want to go to a place where there are a lot of college students and active groups. Sports things would be cool. Right now my family goes to a Baptist church but we used to go to a Methodist one. It doesn't really matter what it is though. Probably not any Catholic stuff though, but I am willing to try.

I go to Grace Bible for the first 3 years of College...it has been pretty good.

Good College Service as well...ALOT of students go there and it also has the smaller feeling than some of the other ones in B/CS.

Have you heard about Impact for freshmen coming to A&M?

Central Baptist is a good place. Two morning services and Freedom (college student sunday school classes). Great preacher.

Grace Bible Church-it's big though, so you'd have to get involved. In fact they have a freshmen Bible study called Doulos. It's on campus.

and http://collegelife.grace-bible.org

Also, Central Baptist Baptist Church. They also have an on campus Bible study called Upstream.

What is impact? Do any churches do Saturday night or Sunday night service?

I believe most churches have a Sunday night service.

Grace and Central both of Sunday night services, but Grace may change to Saturday night this fall?

Check it out!
I'm not sure but I think Impact is like Fish Camp for Christians and I hear it's cool!

Also, I say you should church "shop" and definitely check out Grace, Central, and I liked Living Hope Baptist Church as well.

First Baptist Church Bryan is a good church. I went to Central for the first year and a half and just could never really get used to the size (its really big). When I went to FBC Bryan I loved it. I felt like I was walking into a family. There are enough college students and ministry options to gain a close knit group of people to serve with, but also there are enough old people to gain wisdom from and to be discipled by... great church!

Impact helps to plug students in during college and really gives you a chance to meet some great people. If you have any questions at all about it, I am on staff, and you can e-mail me at ashiman04@neo.tamu.edu

But for sure check out the website! Scholarships are available also if you are interested!

St. Mary's has a Mass every day at 5:30pm. Plus a 7pm on Sunday and if you happen to speak spanish a 7pm on Saturday.

I second A&M Church of Christ. However, if you are used youth services with rock bands then you may not like it because in Church of Christ everyone sings and they arent the songs you hear at Breakaway. I think you should try several churches the first few weeks of school and see what you like. The Methodist Church next to campus is very nice as well.

Grace Bible Church! I went there almost every Sunday in college and loved it.

grace is going to a saturday night service that will start in the fall semester. they really encourage bible study small groups that meet weekly. there are also opportunities to get involved, you just have to let someone know you want to serve. grace gives you alot of options sunday mornings (small groups, big groups, "big church" for lack of a better term).

first baptist bryan is a great place too. being in bryan, you get a different service experience. grace and central are obviously going to serve the college station area since thats where they are. first baptist bryan has some great ministries to the people of bryan, such as SOS (Save Our Streets). also, they have some great opportunities to minister to high school and junior high kids. they also have small group bible studies and alot of options on sunday mornings.

central is a great church as well. i dont know as much about it, but i have great friends that attend their and love it. it is very easy to get involved with their high school and junior high programs and i know the mentoring stuff they do with them is really cool.

those are the only three i know much about. i would try and help on the churches in the area, but i couldnt give you anything other than what i have heard my friends say and while i trust them, i would rather give you first hand experience.

i really would encourage you to check out impact. they have a ministry fair one day of the camp where ministries and churches from all over the area come and set up a booth and you can talk to or not talk to whoever. you can get tons of information there, and at impact you will be in a small group with counselors who will want to help you get plugged in.

hope that helps.

Central is great. I was born and raised in Bryan and grew up in that church...all the way from preschool to college.

Absolutely agree! FBC Bryan is wonderful. Feels very "homey" compared to Central. (Something about church is stadium seating doesn't work for me) But yes, FBC Bryan is great and would definitely recommend it.

I'm from nearly the same background as you are. I went to a Methodist church up until 6th grade, then switched to a Baptist church in high school.

I tried Central Baptist for a semester. Too big. I tried Living Hope Baptist. Didn't like the pastor (fell asleep during his sermons). Finally tried Grace Bible and I love it! It's big, but it feels small, especially if you get involved. The college pastor, Matt, is freakin' awesome. He really knows how to relate to college students. In addition to Doulos that is sponsored by Grace, there is also Upstream Bible Study that meets every Thursday in All Faiths Chapel. I did Upstream my freshman year and made some really good friends through there.

you can be social and get some good Bible study and worship out of it too. in my Upstream and Grace bible studies, Bible study time was Bible study time. play time was play time.

This thread is super helpful! Thanks guys. Also, to people who look down on the social stuff at church, we should be making friends at a place like that.
