Why do you care what "Ol Army" thinks anyway? If your motive is pure, it shouldn't matter what anyone thinks.

The pic looks great!

I would be considered "Old Army" by many on this board (88).

I never went to cut or worked on stack, I was too busy working a job. That said, I never missed bonfire. I was married on the day of bonfire 1988. The rib and I spent a large part of our wedding night at bonfire.

I'm glad it still burns regardless of any official University "support".

Of course I'll be there! Only worked on this one for about a half day, but it still counts as my 4th, all off campus. I'm leaving here in a few minutes to make it on time!

I am glad that there are students today who care enough to try and keep the tradition going. They are great Aggies! Good job building the hell out of Bonfire.

i don't care if it is not THE bonfire. i was out in the woods cutting with freshmen 8-9 years younger than me a couple of years ago, and it all felt the same to me when i was a fish 10 years ago. the spirit is still alive

If anything, this Bonfire is more Aggie than the old one.

Good job guys. Wish I wasn't 500 miles away.

It was too dusty out there. Seriously, would it kill you to wet the ground throughout the day?

Indeed it was dusty... It was on the list of things to get done today but more pressing issues were to be handled first.

I think he means that Bonfire was taken for granted in the latter years. You don't know what you have until you've lost it. However, against all odds, current students and some former students are busting their ass to bring back this great tradition. Pretty Aggie like if you ask me. But what do I know, I wasn't around in '99.

I don't care if its not on campus, I dont care if its not as tall, its still built by Aggies. The camaraderie is still the same out there, cutting logs, loading, stacking etc. Burn baby burn.

As one Old Army type, from 1965 thru 1970 on campus, seeing and working on five Bonfires, including the record holding one n 1969, I say a big whoop for those with the spirit to do whatever it takes to build a safe and sturdy Bonfire. Keep up the good work.

I think I'm cosidered a little old Army now- worked on '97, '98, '99 bonfires and then on Student Bonfire '02, '03. Those students are trying hard to keep the tradition alive. It may not be university santioned bonfire but the spirit is alive and well. It was great to see pots with Class of '10 out there last night- I'm proud of those students

The naysayers here have a choice to make: Wait around for the university to graciously return Bonfire to campus during which time the tradition will fade away forever--which is the admin's deepest wish; or get behind the STUDENTS who are pouring their blood sweat and tears into preserving and perpetuating one of our most cherished and visible traditions.

A&M's traditions have always risen from the student body, not been handed down from on high. I'm amazed at how many people here seem to have lost sight of that.

New Army's done good. Beat the Hell outta t.u.!

we go out there to build and to teach it to those younger than us to keep the tradition alive and so that if, and when Bonfire is able to return to campus...we will have current students with the knowledge and the understanding of how it should be done

i am glad that people like those in bonfire coalition are on campus are still fighting for bonfire to come back with the admin...however when it comes time to bring it back what really will they be able to do in order to build Bonfire, we will have people that can step in and understand all that goes into planning all aspects of a fire. these current leaders of off-campus bonfire have a much larger realm of responsibility considering they have to deal with a lotof things that 'old army' reds did not

I'm curious, how many of you who say that Off Campus Bonfire isn't Bonfire, have actually gone out and participated in some way, shape, or form?

If you haven't, then how could you possibly know?
