Ags,
Well, as expected, the verification process has been very well received, at least judging by the number of inquiries in my inbox. Please allow me to explain the basics:
As some of you might know, we have been getting pounded by posters pretending to be Aggies (aka imposters). These posters have made it extremely difficult for us to effectively moderate and, in many cases, have purposefully created problems for this site and our school. As a result, we are staring a new volunteer user verification program, the purpose of which is to identify those who are Aggies (actually attended A&M), those who are supporters of the school, and those who are neither.
This verification process is not subjective, we are not attempting to separate the “good” Aggies from the “bad” Aggies. Instead, we are only trying to determine whether or not a given poster actually attended A&M. The verification process is fairly simple: First, tell us who you are (who you really are that is) and, second, provide proof that you are an Aggie. Each of the people that have the “AG” icon have something in common, I know who they are and I know for a fact that they are an Aggie.
There are certainly posters on this board that are much more “aggie” than I, but never actually attended school at A&M. Thus, there will be a designation for friends of the school. This verification will be known as “Aggie Spirit” and will be denoted by a maroon “S”.
We will provide several methods for posters to accomplish this and will be detailing them on the site in the very near future. The easiest of which will be to meet us face to face – like at the tailgate we are having before the McNeese State game this weekend.
Regardless of how it is done, the verification process is an important step for our community and it is long overdue.
Gig’em,
Brandon ‘95
PS. I will be in a meeting the vast majority of the afternoon, thus will not be able to process verification requests until later this evening. Everyone will get a chance to be verified, but it is going to take some time, so hang in there.
