Is there a way to remove the antique finish from your Aggie ring that won't damage it?

Why would you want to do that? I'm sure a jeweler could do it for you

Have you tried referencing the "New Army Handbook"?

I thought it was new army to have it antiqued...Am I wrong on this? Obviously someone said their dad from 30 years ago..So, I guess not.

So, are all rings that old that look like solid gold just worn?

My mom though my dads was dirty and she got it cleaned and it looks like normal gold now. He had it like 10 years before he met her, so I'm sure a bit of if wore off, but a jeweler ought to be able to do it. Why do you want to?

Are you having buyers remorse? I get my ring tomorrow and ordered antique. I am hoping I still like it.It is such a hard decision. If you are getting your ring tomorrow, I feel your anxiety.

Buy a new one? And do it right this time?

Yea I'm having a bit of buyer's remorse. The natural finish ones are just so flashy and in your face. I got antique because I thought it was more old army. I've had mine since '04 and pretty much nothing has worn off. I wore it one summer when I worked in a lumber yard and it got kind of beaten up so I'm thinking about sending it back to Balfour and getting it refinished.

I have mine as antiqued and I love it. I get a lot of comments about how it is rare to see a girl with and antiqued ring.

I am hispanic so if I go around with all the bling that a natural finish gives off then I would look like some cholo or something which is why I went with antique.

The natural finish is instantly recognizable as an Aggie Ring.

Antinque finish...people might think it's a high school class ring or, worse, a tu ring.

Ditto, Aces. I wouldn't have my ring any other way. And antiqued is not new army. My supervising teacher when I student taught is '69 and his was antiqued. You can still see a few traces.

That's why I like it Audi.

I think quite the opposite. I find it harder to identify an Aggie ring when its all gold because I can't really tell from afar the chracteristics of it, i.e. the eagle, shiled, etc. While with the antique the features are more visible from further away.

Just for you young ones. There was a time that the antique was the only finish and what was expected in an Aggie ring. At first I did not recognize the shiny ones. Used to take years to wear them into gold dome rings.

Which finish is the oldest, natural or antiqued?

When my diamond got put in, it came back with out the antiquing (oxidation). I had it added back, but it wears off easily.

My dad '62 has the antiqued ring and it still has more than mine.

whoop, my sister has been anywhere from the Staten Ferry Island, the subway in NY, to the bottom of the Royal Gorge and had her natural finish ring recognized. Both her & the people who recognized it had natural finish as well.

Is simply taking off the antiquing the same as having a natural finish?

I think an antique ring is a little bit harder to recognize, imo. From a distance, it looks like other college rings. My dad's gold antiqued ring from SFASU looks like an Aggie ring from a distance. But if I see a natural finish ring, I generally assume it to be an Aggie ring, and I'm often correct in my assumption.

You people are crazy. Antique is 1,000 times more recognizable.

Natural is a fairly new option.

Exactly NoAC.

NoAC, I know. It's probably because I'm new army, but I recognize a natural ring much easier than an antiqued one.

As an old Ag put it to me, you earn the shine with time. They didn't offer them without the antiquing until fairly recently. Any old Ag that has a shiny gold A&M ring has worn it a lot and the black comes out. That's how you get the antiquing out, wear it your entire life.

I ordered mine antiqued, but I was planning on polishing up a little bit. Has anyone actually suggested what to use yet?

you can use toothpaste, but that would likely be abrasive on the antiquing...just use any jewelry cleaner.

I've had my ring since April 2006, and I love the natural finish.

I am having buyers remorse about the metal quality I chose. I got 10K, but I saw a 14K ring and compared it to mine and it looks so much nicer. I can't decide it I want to get my ring metal changed. Is 14K really too soft?

Antique is the oldest and most recognizable. The detail of the ring stands out more. Besides, it's Ol' Army.

For what it's worth, I take a second glance at a ring to see if it's an Aggie ring if it's antiqued. It's more recognizable in my opinion because you can see that all too familiar design in the middle more easily.

14K's definitely too soft. As the years pass, you'll have a plain band with a couple of edges where the shield used to be
Cheer

I have a 14K, got it in April 2005, and it's already getting worn smooth on the band.
