Ok, I got a parking ticket today. Apparently I violated Section 28-88(b)(1) of the Dallas City Code, which says that a person commits an offense if they park on the left-side of a 2-way street.

What?

Isn't everyone parked on the "left-side" of a 2-way street, depending on which direction you're looking?

Did you park facing the wrong direction?

Your passenger side tires have to be 18 inches MAX from the curb. If you park the other way around, your passenger side tires are obviously further than 18 inches. Put the ticket back on your car, wait for a little while after the time on the ticket and take a picture of your car facing the CORRECT way (that is, the way of traffic for that side of the street). Did it and won my case in Houston. I couldn't believe the officer even showed up.

EDIT: Take a ruler and show your tires being about 17" from the curb, and then b_tch about a waste of your time to fight the ticket.

SEC. 28-88. STANDING OR PARKING ON ONE-WAY AND TWO-WAY ROADWAYS.
(a) If a highway includes one or more separate roadways, and traffic is restricted to one direction on one or more of the separate roadways, a person commits an offense if he stops, stands, or parks a vehicle:

(1) upon the left-hand side of the one-way roadway, unless signs are erected to permit such stopping, standing, or parking;

(2) with the left-hand wheels of the vehicle more than 18 inches from the left-hand curb or edge of the roadway, if stopping, standing, or parking is permitted on the left-hand side of the one-way roadway;

(3) with the right-hand wheels of the vehicle more than 18 inches from the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway; or

(4) in a direction other than the direction of authorized traffic movement.

(b) A person commits an offense if he stops, stands, or parks a vehicle upon a two-way roadway:

(1) on the left-hand side of the roadway; or

(2) with the right-hand wheels of the vehicle more than 18 inches from the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway. (Ord. Nos. 14584; 20012; 20269)

It is a bit slow, but this is directly from Dallas City Code.

You will also see that parking in the opposite direction of traffic is part of the offense as also is the 18 inch rule. She was going against traffic, so not sure she has a case unless the cop just doesn't show up. She would be lying by saying her car was parked in the right direction. I am sure the ticket shows that also.
