Does anyone have USAA's personal computer coverage? I got it when we bought our house a few years ago.

Is it worth trying to make a claim through them to get it fixed/replaced?

Has anyone made a claim through USAA for this? Did your rates go up?

Unless you have a very high end PC, I don't think it is worth the coverage. I am not sure what the rider limitations are for non coverage, but if it is like jewelry, it is $500. You can buy a lot of computer for $1000 these days. Do you really need insurance for $500?

Now, if you have a $4000 sysytem, it might be worth it...

Just my 2 cents...

It's already a part of my homeowner's insurance.

$8/year
$3,000 coverage
$100 deductible

Don't know about computers, but my daughter's engagement ring is covered under their homeowner's policy. She lost a stone out of it and USAA replaced it without any problems. They insured it because it was an antique ring that had been in the family for 100 years.

i spilled a cup or water on our cpu and it fried everything. They had me take it to a "certified dealer" of my choice. I picked compusa, and they came back saying that it was indeed fried. From there they had me detail out my system, since it was older they had me bring it up to what was the norm today. Then they took out the $100 deductible and i ended up getting like $700 dollars.

Did they pay for the cost of taking it to CompUSA?

In fall of '99 when oldest daughter started A&M we asked about computer coverage. It has cost roughly $20 a year, in addition to the regular homeowner policy. Never had to make a claim but they way they have always responded...I would think they would help you completely. Absolutely no complaints at all, member 30+ years.

Jewelry is a standard part of a HOA or HOB policy whether it is just lost or stolen (even if you get mugged). I forget the standard percentage, but if you itemize it (you pay a little more but not much) you should be able to get it replace without it being subject to the deductible.
