I am loath to part with my Aggie ring for any period of time, however, I may have to. I've dropped 30 lbs and it's getting a little loose. So loose that I flung it off my hand at the rifle range a few weeks ago. A search in the snow turned it up, but it was a wakeup call.

Do I have to send it back to balfour, or can I get it resized anywhere? Does balfour do anything else while it's there, like check the diamond setting, etc?

go to balfour. going anywhere else will void balfour's lifetime warranty. when i got mine back it looked like a brand new ring.

Daughter ordered hers too big and it was flung off twice and she decided to let Montelongo's in CS resize her..it thinned out the back too much because that is the only place they could work on it. She wore it another few months and then sent it to Balfour and they sent her a new one for $45.

You will get a different ring in return..they cannot take out that much gold so my advice is be excited you have lost weight! Order a new ring, have the diamond removed/replaced locally and keep the original.

Listen to me, I worked at the Association from Dec 2001 thru May 2003, so I know what I'm talking about.

1st of all: Do not take it to a jewler, it will void your warranty. For people that live in CS, it only costs 5 bucks to get it resized, outside of CS you have to ship it and pay for insurance.

2nd: They do not give you a new ring without asking first. They know how people get attached to their rings and they don't switch them on you. I have had my ring resized twice, and i got the same one back every time. I know this b/c 1)they promise its the same and 2) I had a scratch that was too deep for them to buff out without ruining the lone star side, and the scratch had antiqing in it when i got it back.

3rd: Depending on how worn your ring is, it will almost look new when you get it back. They will re-antique it and buff out scratches, and replace all the little bumps on the bottom.

Edit: I believe the general rule is that they can resize it up to 2 sizes above or below what it originally was. Mine was originally 12.75, now it is 11.25 after two resizings.

But what if you don't want the a-holes on the bottom replaced? My ring is getting worn and I like it that way, but would like to get it reantiqued, with no other adjustments made.

John D. Huntley in B/CS did my mom's ring...from a 3.5 to a 5. Cost around $80.

JD Huntley did mine. No problems.

Has anyone here ever filed a warranty claim for their ring?

The warranty covers repairs or replacement (i.e. trade-in, not replacement for loss). If you drop it off at the Association you pay $5 for shipping (at least that's what it was when i quit working there 2.5 yrs ago). If you mail it in, then you have to send them around $45-50 bucks (i don't remember exactly) for the return shipping insurance.

David Gardner did mine. I tried to get Balfour to do it, but they wouldn't since I'd had the diamond put in it by a jeweler.

Gardner's did a great job on it. Impossible to tell it's been sized.

a) why on earth would you want it "replaced"? (I'm assuming this means, "hey, I'm sending you my old ring and you send me a new one" )

b) what "repairs" would need to occur?

resizing, having a diamond put in, fixing a loose diamond, having the ring re-antiqed, having one that was originally rose finish antiqued, buffing out dings, etc.

Diamonds in Aggie rings are for women and fhegs.

Balfour did mine and I did have a diamond put it in by a jeweler. All that meant was that I had to pay Balfour to resize it, not that they would not do it at all. I had mine sized down either 1.5 or 2 sizes to be a pinky ring and had no problem with it.

And no, they did NOT send me a new ring and they did NOT replace the worn bumps.

I would definitely have Balfour do the resizing.

if they resize your ring, they might put back all the tsips you wore off (those bumps)... so if you've been working hard to rubbing those off, you might have to start over...

Sent mine to Balfour. Easy and free.

yeah, I'll send it to balfour. I kind of figured it was a no brainer.
