I second this question, I too am stupid and don't have any. We were actually starting to look into it, and now this damn hurricane is coming our way.

Yes, it's too late before the storm hits.

You are SOL. Most companies have a 30-day activation requirement from the time a policy is issued to the time it takes effect.

I'm gonna go to Geico.com and see if I can add it.

I've been with them on my vehicles for years so maybe they might be nice and hook me up.

how stupid do you think insurance companies are? they're going to add you knowing they'll have to shell out millions for you?

insurances are in the business of making money, not helping people. no way will you be getting any renters insurance 2 days before a hurricane.

Renters insurance coverage through Geico actually starts the next day at 12:01 a.m. if you buy it, but because of the storm you get this message.

QUOTES ARE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED DUE TO AREA RESTRICTION

All insurance companied shut down new policies and /or changes to existing policies when a storm is approaching.

Sorry.

Yeah I used to work for Farmers and as soon as a potential hurricane was spotted an immediate restriction was placed on writing new policies and upgrading current policies.

Wow, at least we aren't the only ones!

But we're probably the only ones in Galveston without it.

Renters Ins doesn't cover flood damage anyway, does it?

Nope, but most people will have wind damage in a hurricane and not flooding.

Wind damage to a rental unit would seem to be mainly a problem for the property owner, and not the renter. It is obviously still good to have in case of burglary/fire/etc, though.

Winddamage can allow water to enter from rain thus damaging your property. Don't forget tornados too.

I got some renter's insurance back in June and I am damned glad I did right now...I hope it's a moot point, but I figure Sugar Land is going to take a pretty good shot from this one.
