B-1 83 Son is about to "out grow" my insurance, and I need to get him some individual health insurance. As a student, what does the Quack Shack provide (aside from the cough syrup and antihystamines for broken arms)?

Get him insurance through the university - its just like normal health insurance.

S&W offers something for his age bracket..since he probably isn't sick much they consider him low risk and it is cheap...I don't know all the details but since they are big in CS I would check into that.

Our insurance cuts them off at 25 so we are in the same boat next summer.

Just tell him to be careful and don't get sick.

Years back I worked for UPS. My delivery route was the TAMU campus. I deliverd boxes & boxes of Monistat creme & Ortho ProNovo pills......

One of my daughters was in a similar situation last year after she finished her undergraduate work. Between graduation and getting picked up on her new companies' benefits plan, she signed up for a policy with Unicare.

She got some advertisements from BCBS for recent graduates with even lower quotes.

I'll bet a comprehensive policy for a 22 year old male is around $90 a month (with a $1000 ded) AND it's "real" comprehensive insurance - not one of those school sponsored programs with a $50K per year cap.

One more thing..he needs continual coverage because any lapse in coverage can allow them to deny future coverage or claims on existing problems.

The "quack shack" is actually pretty good medical care. They have 10 board certified physicians on staff and you've already paid to see them so why not use the service? They have many services for students outside of a doctor's visit as well, including a physical therapy department. Check out the website at shs.tamu.edu. It's a good place to go if you have sore throats, headaches, vomitting, etc. They also provide 24 hour EMS services to students on campus. I used them quite a bit when I was a student.

Too bad he's not a chick. He could get a pregnancy test if he has a cold or sinus infection.
