Not trying to scare anyone, but it's getting insane in Baton Rouge. Unfortunately, I can barely make any outgoing calls and I keep hearing that it's hard to call my cell phones too. Anyways, there's a lot of riots breaking out over here. A couple of Walmarts have shut down...even schools that began again have had to discontinue and send children home due to the riots. The Baton Rouge population has about doubled with all homeless people and they're not leaving any time soon. My apartment complex is loaded with all kinds of strangers and I can't tell if they're family/friends of residents or if they're just homeless people hanging around. The apartment management even shut down their business center and workout room because they kept finding homeless people in there. My manager's wife got held up at a Walmart last night. Another lady at work said that her mother inlaw was held up at the gas station. Another manager of mine said that his neighborhood, which is really nice, was getting robbed since most of the people weren't even staying there due to the electricity outages. My friend's mom was going to volunteer at the Cajun Dome in Lafyette but the Sheriff told her not too since someone was raped last night. We're playing the radio at work and they said that they had to bring in a swat team into the Baton Rouge Centroplex (where about 5000 refugees are) because riots were breaking out over there. Anyways, it's really creepy and it's getting worse. Sorry I can't call you guys back. I don't know if any of you have tried calling. I keep getting voicemails and a lot of times, I can't even check them due to the towers being so bogged down. Well, this email is to let you guys know that I am ok, and I'm not staying alone for a while hopefully.

Proof that bringing these people to our state is stupid. Perhaps we should close and patrol our borders instead of busing them into the state.

FWIW, I heard a press conference earlier that said that the riot rumors are false. They have arrested one guy for disorderly conduct but everything else is ok.

I miss when we only had to worry about Mexicans coming over....I would much rather have 100,000 Mexicans coming over than 100,000 cajuns begging for a handout.

Going to get her isnt safe. They are carjacking everyone that tries to get into the cities.

That might be a good idea jm. I was just able to reach her on her work phone, cell still not working. She is worried about not being able to find gas if she tries to drive out or being carjacked along the way. Does anybody know the gasoline situation between here and there? I figure if I gas up at the border I aught to be able to get there and back to border on one tank. Said her apartment complex has shut their office and work out room to keep homeless out.

this is terrible. Just think of all the NO registered sex offenders and convicts on parole who are now completely unaccounted for in the SE United States. It is scary.

Riot has to be a rumor. I doubt the SWAT team coming in would have been overlooked by CNN/Fox

Are the people of NO completely uncivilized? I understand this is a very difficult situation but they are attacking the communities who are taking them in. If this is what's going to happen leave them at home.

Hope the article is right. My guess is somewhere in the middle. Not as bad as rumors, but not the "no problem" the article paints. I know what she has heard from co-workers and seen at her apartment is right though. In any case the terror people are feeling in the city is real and I want her out. Checked airlines $600+ one way to Houston with 3 stops. $1000+ one way to Houston with 2 stops. Somehow I doubt these flights cost this mush last week.
May be back to me driving out.

My boss's mom and sister live in BR. They have no power, generator is about out of gas, and her cell phone cut out when she called him, so he doesn't know if they are still OK, heading this way, or what. And can you imagine doubling a city's population overnight? Chaos.

$600 or a $1000 is nothing when it comes to your safety.

If you drive, please take at least someone with you followed by some guns. Take your own food and supplies and for your own sake only stop for gas. Might be wise to spend the money to fly her out though.
