We don't need kegs of beer to have fun! We like to remember the fun we had the night before! What's the fun of getting trashed and then being sick the next day from a hangover??? I just don't see what's so fun about it. I've never had alcohol in my life and I have just as much fun as people that drink a lot. If I need a drink that will get me going I'll drink some DP's or some java shakes!

Tell him to go to the open house and rush events and just hang out with the guys. Look for a group of guys who he fits in with and also a group of guys that he'd like to be like. Tell him to just be honest with himself and not concerned with who's "cool" because that stuff doesn't matter anymore. Tell him that they all have fun parties, he doesn't need a frat to meet hot chicks, so what he needs to focus on during rush are the guys and what they do besides partying. Every group has something to offer, and really it changes every few years so my opinion about my favorite fraternities won't mean much as an '02er. Good luck to him!

Besides having alcohol at our events, we're just like any other frat. Our focus is a little different, but I promise you it's not just "Bible studies". Just depends on what you're looking for.

BYX is not a frat in the traditional sense of the word. It has been a while, but I do not believe that we were governed by any sort of greek council. Imagine it is still that way. If he wants to join a fraternity to make good friends, then BYX is a great way to go. He needs to be honest with himself about it though, and prepare to be honest with his pledge brothers as well.

Then again, he has a semester to figure this stuff out before he can join BYX.

Good ones are: SigEp, SAE, Sigma Chi, KA, Beta, and Pi Kapp. Maybe Phi Delt, they seemed pretty cool, but I never knew much about them.

P.S. I don't understand the hostility towards fraternities/sororities by those who have never participated in them.

The hostility is directed towards the ****s that walk around campus in pastel shirts, khakis, and boat shoes, drive $40 or $50k tahoes and such, and have to meet girls at "date parties" when they are trashed because they don't have the social skills to otherwise meet one.

All he has to do is be in a dorm period, and if he is remotely cool he will make a good group of freinds to party with.

Question for you frat types. Would it be better for a guy to actually attend A&M for a semester or two before rushing...if he must? Would that help someone actually see how they operate instead of a week of quick parties?

Or do you actually have enough time to get **** done outside being a pledge?

You don't want to wait too long to pledge, because you want to have some time with the fraternity. Waiting a semester or two won't hurt, it's just up to what that person wants to do. To answer your last question, no you wouldn't have that much free time outside of pledging, but they will give you time to study if that's what you're asking about.

Are there good frat daddies, absolutely. Do I have fratty friends, yes. Are a lot o ftheir frat brothers complete and total asshats, you better believe it.

I would recommend waiting before pledging. I waited until the spring of my sophomore year to pledge. I pledged a different fraternity that what I would have pledged if I had pledged any earlier.

A&M obviously has a lot to offer outside of greek life. Whatever your brother does, he needs to make sure his fraternity is not the sole involvement he has at A&M.

As far as the top chapters go, Sig Ep, KA, Beta, Sigma Chi, Beta, Pi Kapp, and FIJI are all top chapters in someone's book and they all suck in anothers'.
