I found a comforter set at Linens 'N Things that I really like. It matches the duvet cover that my mom bought for the down blanket she gave me and shipped to me up here in Chicagoland last fall. For some reason, she didn't think I'd like the duvet cover, but I loved it. The set (queen size) is $200, but I have one of those 20% off coupons to knock it down to $160. I think Bed Bath & Beyond used to carry the pattern, but may have discountinued it since I think my mom found the duvet cover on clearance there. I've looked in Marshall's and TJ Maxx, but haven't seen anything there. I'm probably going to just bite the bullet and get it, but I just never imagined I'd be spending so much on a comforter set.

I've checked Ebay, too...and for the price to piece the set together after shipping plus the fact that the comforter is either lightly used or slightly flawed if it's not new, I might as well pay the 10-20 dollars extra and get a new one.

I spent about $200 total on my bed linens. That includes 400+ threadcount sateen sheets with pillowcases, matching shams, a couple of throw pillows, and the bedskirt. An itchy bed is no fun.

Yeah yeah yeah - your dorm set is a gimmie. :P

Just wait until you have your own place and are ready to start decorating!

I love my mommy, too, though. The fact that she gave me the down comforter that was a wedding gift when she and my dad were in England saved me the amount of money that I would be spending on a down comforter of that quality. It got more use this winter than the 30+ years that they've had it living in Texas! They also bought me my matress set as a birthday gift last year when I moved to Chicagoland.

Mine was $120ish... and its held up well for 5 years, unlike the stuff you would get for $40 at Kmart.

What, men don't get to answer? I'll have you know that I paid...actually, come to think of it, I don't have a comforter, let alone any kind of set. Right now, I'm using a sleeping bag as a comforter. When it's colder, I use the futon my grandmother made for me when I was 2. Keep in mind, this is a real futon, not a "futon mattress" that you mayonaise-eating white people call by that name. Grandma made one for my dad when he was born, my brother has one, and I have one. But my little sister never got one because the factory that made the batting burned down about a year after Grandma made mine. I used to tease her about that.

In fact, maybe I should call her up to laugh at her about that right now.

i paid $40 for a comforter at bed bath and beyond and was POd about paying that much. but it was worth it during the cold DC winter. I just moved into an unfurninsh apartment and I had no furniture. I thought about buying a bed, but instead got a queen size air mattress for $20. My kitchen table is the box my TV came in turned upside down. Oh, I am a guy in case you hadnt figured that out.

I checked overstock.com, and they don't have my pattern. Plus, I think I've lived with Target branded stuff, I'm still thinking in that price range.

For those of you interested, it's the Croscill Chambord pattern. It's considered one of the "luxury" bedding ensembles at LNT. I'll have the pattern as the base, I might get the matching curtain panel, and then I'll have the color scheme to run with. The pattern is kind of busy, so I think it looks kind of gaudy with EVERYTHING in the room with that pattern. But, I might invest in a couple of the decoritive pillows in the near future.

As far as the actual bed linens - I saw 1000 TC sheets in Sam's for $40 in Indy, so I'm not paying the 100 bucks for the matching sheet set for this pattern. If I can find the right shade, I think regular solid sheets will look nice with it.

Both of my sets were originally $300 each, but I bought them on sale around $120 or $150.

The only downside to them is that they're dry-clean only of course.

Mine was dry clean but I take it to the laundromat with the huge multi-load washer.I also throw in new/clean sneakers when I dry it to help with moving it around and pressing the water out.

As soon as I get the kids settled in August I will get it washed for the fall.During the summer we use a sheet that coordinates.

If you want it really badly, buy it. That's my philospophy. I'm not talking about going out and buying a jag or anything, but I know there have been things I have really liked and didn't buy due to the price. I regretted not buying it later. While $300 is a lot to spend on bedding, it isn't THAT outrageous if it is something you will really love and get a lot of use out of.

Price isn't really the issue...I've decided I'm going to get it. I know a nice bedding ensemble is going to cost a little bit. I was just wondering how much others have spent on their set.

$120 for quilt and shams @ bb&b...
$20 for 400 tc sheets at TJ Maxx...
$20... extra sheet set...
$25 for bedskirt bb&b...
$30 for accent pillows...
----
$215... and that's going the cheap route.. but hey... I"m a college student... TJ Maxx sheets will just have to do!

You should check Ross for the sheets. I received a good deal on 600tc sheets there. I believe they were like $50. You have to do some searching on the shelves but they should have some. I wouldn't buy a comforter there unless you're looking at an inexpensive one. A nice comforter set will run you a few hundred bucks anywhere you go.

i don't think i've ever bought a whole set together, so i haven't spent that much at once, but it sounds like it's not too bad, especially b/c you have the 20% off coupon. i have a down comforter & have bought numerous duvet covers for it, so i try to find them cheap b/c i change my mind a lot.

i think the most expensive one i've had was a dark purple velvet one from LNT for about $100. that stupid thing collected dust like crazy, so i only kept it for a little over a year. the one i have now is from Target for about $60 & it's really soft. it's also white, so it goes w/ everything & i can change my sheets or curtains easily. i've found that i need to buy solid colored bedding or i get tired of it too quickly, plus it's easier to change your accents around the room. i usually find sheets on sale at BB&B or Tuesday Morning. i agree that it's worth the price if you're gonna get a lot of use out of it, so just make sure you really love it. the material also makes a difference...i don't think i could spend $200 on a comforter unless it was silk.
