Can anyone help me with the making of these? They made them well in the Ptarmigan, and I ahve ahd friends make them well, but I can't get the hang of it. Are there any non-professional bartenders that can make this well?

75% Amaretto, 25% 151 in the shot glass. Light it on fire.

Do I drop it into the glass of beer as soon as it is lit on fire? Do I chug it as soon as it hits the glass?

I fill a mug of beer. Then slowly pour 151 on top of the beer. Light it on fire, then drop a shot of Amaretto into the mug. Throw it back!

Oh and chig as soon as you drop it!

I haven't had one or been to the Ptarmigan in years!

There used to be some hot women who went there too circa 1997-99, mostly sorority chicks.

I always thought the place may have turned into skid row after we quit going there, but I hope not.

The Ptarmigan always had a weird clientele. Some day it would be Greek, some days locals (my roommate from Fr year on was a local and a stdent, so he knew these people), a wannabe biker gang showed up a couple of times I was there.

Cheap beer, cheap women, good times. I miss it.

Actually, the way the Ptarmigan did it was:

1. Fill a mug with beer.

2. Take a shot glass and fill it almost to the top with Amaretto.

3. Top off shot glass with 151.

4. Light 151.

5. Drop flaming shot into beer mug.

Is it easier to do the way the poster suggested (light the beer +151 on fire, drop in shot of AMaretto) or the way the Ptarmigan does it?

For someone in their house who doesn't know much about bartending.

ANyone remember Nina, she worked at the Ptarmigan my senior year (graduated May 2003)? That was some good stuff.

wasnt it Coup..or maybe 315 in the early days where they would spit a fireball when someone ordered a flaming DP

Glasses of beer (keystone works best)
Line them up.
Put shot glasses of amaretto topped with 151 on the rims of the lined up glasses to where they are balanced.
Take a swig of 151, hold up a lighter.
Spew.
Knock shotglasses in beer.
Down.

It was Coupe's. I've also seen it done at the Dry Bean I think but I can't really remember.

Shiner or other "dark" beers seem to work best...

I love Flaming Dr. Peppers and usually go to the Dry Bean to get this drink...first one of the night...to start things off right.

If you are doing a single,
Fill mug 1/2 to 3/4 full of your choice of beer (my choice is Coors Light).
Fill shot glass almost to top with amaretto.
Top off with 151.
Light the shot (the 151 is what is burning not the amaretto).
Drop the shot in beer.
Chug (don't stop chugging until it is all gone!)

If you have friends around, I have seen them line the beer glasses up next to each other and balance the shot glasses on the rims of the glasses. They then light all the shots and knock the shot glasses into the beer like a domino effect. This is pretty cool except when the waitress screws up and breaks the mug and beer goes everywhere and then tries to charge you for it (this was not at the Dry Bean).

chug as soon as it hits the glass, assuming all fire is out.

at the ptar around fall 98 some theta girl singed her hair hitting it a little too early. very dirty night...

most posts are right w/ the 151 layered on top of the amaretto... we had them at the sitting duck uptown new orleans once made with mickeys... they were good.

also, once passed a flaming dr pepper truck on the osr... wish I'd had a digital camera back then, woulda' made a great poster...

anyone else ever talk their mom into trying one? mine did much to the dismay of dear old dad... was too funny, she didn't understand the chug part...

I have nowhere near the bartending skills to try the line them all up and knock them all into the glasses or spitting the fireballs.

My roommate and I will try the two ways (lighting the shot glass and dropping it in and dropping the amaretto shot into the already lit beer) to test it out before the other people come over to join us.

Another tip is to pour the 151 over a spoon to keep it from sinking in the amaretto. My buddy and I stuggled making them then I called my sister who was a bartender at the time and she helped us out.

Flaming Dr Pepper = breakfast of champions!

Another tip: make sure the flame is out before you drink it. Also be careful not to spill it on you when you knock the shot into the beer. Those little blue alcohol flames can be hard to see, but the burn like a biatch.

why do i remember being told to blow it out first. i recall the barwench telling us to take it easy because people always endup when blowing the flame out, it splashes the booz... nope nevermind. it was lit the whole time...
