Anyone know the first year Chilifest was held? I know it was incorporated since 1999, but what year was the first actual event?

tro is right... it was somewhere between 92 and 94. The SAE's started it and when it got so big, the university pulled the "risk management" tag on them, so the SAE's made Chilifest Inc. and one of their pledges Dad was a VP for miller lite.

Hence, Chilifest was sponsored by Miller Lite and the new Chilifest began.

Anyone know when it moved from the Walmart parking lot out to Snook?

I remember going back in the day when the concerts were small enough that everyone could fit in the small building they have out there.

Not true. No SAE has ever been family to Miller Lite. Miller Lite has always been very supportive to us in terms of helping us book bands, etc. In '96 they offered their exclusive sponsorship to us, thus the relationship was solidified there.

Chili started in '91 I believe. Moved to Snook in '95 or '96. Chilifest, Inc has nothing to do with the A&M's risk management policy. It was started to branch out support to handle an event that grew out of size for a 80 man fraternity of which only about 30 were involved actively. We simply couldn't handle the crowd capacity with that many people, thus needed to seek out help from other organizations at A&M as well as our charities.

Um, you're wrong.

I was there in 98 and it was in Snook.

From 98 to 00 (I couldn't go in 99) I know that the general location of everything moved a little east. When I went in 98 everything was generally to the west of the concert site (the concerts were held in the slab with a roof over it). All of the teams (which I bet there weren't more than 50 of) were out to the west of that area.

I don't know if the teams moved closer to 60 in 99 or in 00.

Peoples Aggie--

I am a SAE alum, as well as one that was heavily involved in running Chili when I was in school, my senior Chili being the first of Chilifest, Inc..

Yup. How's he doing?

PS..was about to edit my post, submitted it cause I had a phone call. You are correct somewhat. The risk management policy was the straw that broke the back, the idea had been floating for a couple of years to incoporate it. The idea was stemming from our national requirement to have our housing run by a separate corporation to separate housing liability from fraternity liability. We actually use to get hatemail from Bowen on Chilifest, and although the university will never admit it, the risk management policy was modified specifically to try and kill Chili. Too bad we had already planned to move it outside of SAE simply due to liability. But you'd be dammned if you believed we were going to let one of the largesy college charity events in the USA die. Somehow A&M couldn't recognize it's association with donating $500,000+ to charity every year was a good thing.

Taylor was doing great last I saw of him. He graduated in May of '04 and got back into A&M with the LERE program. Last I saw of him was before the Tech game in CS this past fall.

Yeah, Bowen was an idiot and a douche. I was glad to see him go!
