I used to go to the ORIGINAL location of On The Border in Dallas' Knox Henderson area before they sold out and became a chain. Heck, the new owners even closed the original and moved a few doors down.
I believe that's an oxymoron. The original owners had several units when they sold out to Brinker International in the mid 90's. A tragic plane crash in Colorado was one of the factors that led to the sale. As I recall, the original restaurant was shut down by Brinker because of several structural issues with the building.

On The Border = "Gringo-ized" Mexican food.
Their Director of Culinary is anything BUT a Gringo...one of the best culinary chefs I've ever met...and a great guy too.
Truth be known, creating Mexican food for the Gringos of this world that live in Texas as well as the other 49 states is difficult. It's no different than BBQ...beef may be king in Texas but sweet pulled pork is king in Tennessee. My suggestion is that true fans of Mexican food that live in Texas find their favorite 'hole in the wall.'
