I asked her about that one...it was like 2 feet tall or so and $300...built to serve like 175 people.

That's the thing with wedding cakes...they have to do mostly with how many they serve. With things like the Kyle Field and Olsen Field cake, they are usually bigger because they have to be to get detail if they're not big because of how many it needs to feed. The bonfire can, I'm sure, be built in varying sizes, as can the fields to a lesser degree.

how about a reveille? could she put the strawberry filling in the middle? i would love to see the looks on peoples faces when they cut into the reveille cake and red preserves ooze out.

Reveille? This was Reveille's birthday cake, although I'm guessing the corps guys ate more than she did.

seriously, it's a pretty good freehand drawing in icing.

Pretty hard to draw freehand using icing, for sure...she was given a few hours notice on that cake...they decided they wanted to do it on the spur of the moment, so she just decided a quick picture worked best. Since we don't freeze cakes like most bakeries, we dont have them lying around made, either...helps greatly when folks compare taste, too.

Hope the staff doesn't mind me whoring out the business a bit here, but she does a lot more than weddings, too...does cookies, truffles, birthday cakes, pies, gift baskets, etc.

We bought our current house because it has a complete second house in the back yard so that she could build it out to a bakery until we're ready to go to a public location. Because its on premise, its "appointment only," so you have to drop an email or call.

Once in a public location, though, it'll be time for her lasagna, chicken enchiladas, baked goods and complete dinners to be available...can't wait for that, but we wanted to get the kids in school full time and a clientele built up before we opened a location.

sounds pretty cool. if the cakes taste as good as they look, she should be well on her way to success!

i wanted the husband to have an aggie groom's cake, but he said no since he's not an aggie. he told me we could have an aggie wedding cake, but i wanted the traditional white kind.

maybe when i turn 30 a few years down the road... i have a big enough family that we could demolish a cake like that...
