In honor of the best CFS thread which caused me to waste $10 bucks and my lunch hour, what do you, my fellow Houstonians consider to be the best Mexican food in Houston.

I think we could have 2 categories: 1.) reputable joints that you wouldn't mind driving the nice car to & 2.) hole-in-the-wall taqueria/taco truck type places that punish your intestines but not your wallet

my vote 1.) Lupe Tortilla 2.) Laredo Taqueria

For real Mexican: any number of those hole-in-the-wall places.

For Tex-Mex: Chuy's on Westheimer.

Cafe Adobe is crap.

ruchi's is great on shephard when it is 3 in the morning and you still need a beer. we used to drink there til all hours. sometimes you had to convince the waitress, but it always worked.

LUpe's is not Mexican food.

Some good ones:
La Mexicana on Fairview
Spanish Flower on NOrth Main
Spanish Village
Doneraki's (the orignal one, on Fulton)
Felix's on Westheimer/Montrose

I like Tony's on Ella, near the loop. Their margaritas are good too.

Lupe's has the best beef fajitas in town, but you can never go wrong with a meal at Pappasitos regardless of how you define Mexican food.

Everyone defines it differently.

Agree both Chuys and Lupe Tortilla are very good. Pappasitos is fine too.

Also agree that you should avoid Cafe Adobe.

My favorite happens to be Los Cucos in the Woodlands. The food there is incredible and the menu is enormous. Here's some info...

Chacho's on Westheimer....awesome. Cheap, large portions, and very good food (plus they're open 24 hours i believe so you cant beat it if you're looking for something to eat around that part of town late at night).
