What about the people at CPS who declared her competant enough to have custody of her kids? Shouldn't social workers check on families like that more then a few times per year? Hopefully there will be some new laws... but they'll have to live with that guilt the rest of their lives.

Unfortunately CPS is not the perfect organization people like to think it is. They are so riddled with red tape and bureaucracy they cannot do much of anything. Many of the caseworkers are carrying 40 to 45 cases at any given time. It’s really sad when thing fall through but it happens.

When my wife and I heard this story on the news last night, we went and picked up our sleeping 6 month old just to give her a hug and kiss.
