Once again, the maxim holds...

"When you listen to Clear Channel, you contribute to the demise of radio."

Good Ag: Amen to that. Unfortunately I like Chris Baker in the afternoons on 950/740, so now I'm torn.

Speaking of how ****ty Houston radio is, I was in Santa Fe, New Mexico earlier this year and thought their radio choices was far superior to Houston. Hell, the Houston area has more people than the entire state of New Mexico, let alone Santa Freakin Fe!

Anybody know what other stations Clear Channel owns in Houston? I play on not listening to any of them.

There is no longer a rock station in this market that plays anything newer than 1970. KLOL was the one dim light in thet black hole of radio darkness that is the Houston radio scene.

Pitiful.

CSAF,

Great list of KLOL personalities... but you left off one of the best - Colonel St. James.

I had KLOL or 97 Rock on my stereo almost the whole time I was in CS. Sorry to hear it go.

I just sent a big time hate letter to ClearChannel.

Just what Houston needs...another "Latino" station. KRBE sucks unless you like hip-hop/R&B(which I don't), MIX is okay if there is nothing else on, and the BUZZ is for little high school rocker-posers.

I guess 106.9 will be programmed into my stereo on every button.

I'm only 32 years old, and I've found myself listening to AM talk radio for the last year or so.

I feel like my freaking Dad.

I still miss 92.1 KTSR in B/CS. RIP. Life has never been the same. 99.5 was good but it has kind of jumped the shark. Hair bands what?

92.1 classical without npr.

then 101.1

stations are losing thier character or flavor. Now its all the same....crap.

speaking of stations with character, anyone hear Radio Hondo outside of San Anontio?

It was the best radio station I've ever had the good fortune to hear. man they played some good stuff!

For anyone who wants to listen to a good morning show now, 94.5 the Buzz has Rod Ryan and he is the best!

Just sent them this nastygram...
quote:
I just wanted to let Clear Channel know that I and thousands of other Houstonians are extremely disappointed in your unexpected and shockingly horrible last second switch from great rock music and the best morning talk show in town to a new repulsive format devoid of any character whatsoever. You may not realize it but a large percentage of the Houston and surrounding area population feel this was a terrible mistake and just a poor corporate decision. I can only hope you will reconsider.

What really ticked me off is I JUST bought a new car stereo and it took me forever to decide which stations to program (KLOL was one of my top 3).

The Arrow is okay but it's TOO classic rock oriented for me.

If they reformatted to merge classic rock AND the KLOL stuff, that might be a good compromise with alot of variety. I'm thinking the old 70's stuff like Deep Purple, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, etc. through the 80's with AC/DC, etc., and early 90's (skip the grunge era)with a sprinkling of newer stuff like Godsmack thrown in. Of course that's probably far too broad for one station.

That's what I would program if I were calling the shots - the best rock from a 30-year span.

Walton and Johnson are still one of the best shows out there (on or off the air). They will be missed in B/CS. clear channel blows donkey ba!!s, and I hope to hear W&J back on the air soon. I thought the format on 101.1 was good. Never cared much for 99.5 The Fox in B/CS, but at least I could pick up both stations.

I have felt that radio and the whole pop music industry is destroying our music culture for a long time now. The lines between genres have been blurred and radio stations rush to play the same 3-5 popular songs the most in hopes that Jow Blow will hear that song and endure the rest of the line-up to hear that song again. How many stations have you heard Los Lonely Boys or Hoobastank on?

Find new acts by going frequently to live music or the internet. I enjoyed W&J in the mornings and the rest of the time, enjoy CDs of bands not heard over the air. Seriously, with the ease of creating playlists and burning CDs, why listen to the radio?

Lastly, the head of CC is an Ag (I want to say Lowry-Mays).

Hit them where it hurts. Get satellite radio. You will NEVER GO BACK!

Satellite radio is the way to go. I've had mine for about 9 months now. I rarely listen to local programming. (Of course I live in podunk Oklahoma now, but that's not beside the point.) I bought it when I was living in Dallas. I was definitely glad to have it when The Eagle went off the air. I saw that one coming, though. It had gotten really stale.

As far as W&J go, I never really liked them to begin with. Clear Channel can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.

This is GREAT news. Houston has needed a fresh new Spanglish radio station for a while now.

It's about time.

I do feel sorry for the trailer park living, natural light in a can drinking, pork rind eating, no education having, Tran Am driving, blue jean jacket wearing, Marlboro smoking, mullet haired white as a sheet Kid Rock crowd, but hey that's life.

If I'm not mistaken, Clear Channel and XM Radio are in a partnership for broadcast content.

Taken from the XM Radio website:

"XM's powerful strategic and equity partners are leaders in their respective industries. These include General Motors, the largest U.S. auto and truck manufacturer; Honda Motors; Clear Channel, the largest U.S. radio station operator."

I'm not sure about Sirrus but it sounds like one can't escape the evil grip of Clear Channel.
