I'm sick of hat nazis telling my finace to take off her hat when she's wearing a visor. Her head is uncovered damn it!

Everyone has their own definition. I personally wear a visor to every game and take it off for yells. I also take it off when I walk in the MSC. A hat is a hat.

If you're sick of them telling her to take it off, teach her to take it off before they yell at her.

Visors never used to be "uncovered". It's still a "hat". She deserves to be yelled at. Take the damn thing off and quit worrying about your hair.

Just don't "uncover" at all. There is no rule (or tradition) that says you must.

Exactly...keep it on and ignore them...they will eventually get tired of no response and shut up...if not, it will become funny after a while that they have been yelling the whole game to no avail.

Yesterday my friends and I had to deal with a few jackasses regarding uncovering.

The first guy proceeded to cuss us out and then called us "not true Ags" because we wouldn't uncover. I guess cussing out your fellow Ags is what a true Aggie is.

The second guy berated us for most of the entire game, calling us 2%'ers and then t-sips.

Here's what I have to say to these guys...let it go.

Not to start a flame war, but do some of ya'll think that you just don't have to uncover if you don't want to?

I always kinda thought of it as "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." I mean, you are going to the game, sitting on the student side, you KNOW that you are supposed to uncover, yet you don't do it - and then you complain when people get rowdy about it.

Again, I'm not trying to start a big war about it, but if you know that you are supposed to do it, you paid to sit on the side that DOES it, why don't you just do it and then you won't even have a problem?

I don't think it is right for people to curse out anyone in public no matter what the situation, but I guess my point is why not just go along with the tradition.

When I was in the student body, the ONLY people who didn't uncover were the people who were visiting from the visitor school - and they were doing it just to be asses. I guess times have changed.

The fact is that some people do it and some don't feel it is a tradition. If you want to yell uncover at the start of the yell to remind everybody, fine. Don't berate other Ags about it. I don't care how you think it makes you look, you look like a jackass. In the grand scheme of things it's just not that big of a deal. Some uncover folks just need to no when to quit. My favorites are the ones who scream uncover all through Spirit. Shut up and do the damn yell.

If you want to think its a tradition and yell uncover just before the yell, whatever. Yell "uncover" and if someone knows it is a stupid concept and doesn't take off their hat leave it at that.

I will uncover for the National Anthem, The War Hymn, and The Spirit. Me taking off my hat to yell, "Beat The Hell Outta...." doesn't not effect the outcome of the game one bit. But for someone to Cuss at you, try and knock your hat off, and through stuff at you for not taking your hat off shows absolutely NO CLASS and I am ashamed to have them associated with the Aggie Nation.
Aggiedoc2003
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I uncover for the Spirit and the War Hymn, but not for every yell.

I just think it's funny that I'm somehow less of an Aggie or a 2%'er because of it. I've more than likely been to more Aggie games and been rooting our team on longer than most of the jackasses yelling that stuff.

You never hear any of this yelling at away games...coincidence? I think not... If these guys were at the away games they would see none of the alumni are doing this during pregame yell. I told someone last week that none of the OD's take their hats off so why are they all yelling?

Dave, not that any of this really matters, but ODs are considered under arms, and someone under arms isn't supposed to take off their cover (hat). If I'm wrong about this, I'm sure someone int the military will correct me shortly.

I don't see the big deal about uncovering or not during a yell. I don't think it makes much difference either way. I do, however think one should uncover during the The Spirit of Aggieland.
TXAGFAN

Most agree that spirit and national anthem are definitely times to uncover...

As it has been rehashed on here a million times the idea that you take your hat off for "respect" when you yell Beat The Hell Outta OU is laughable at best.

I'm opening the old can of worms but women weren't supposed to uncover "in my day". Somehow female ags are now considered bad ags if they don't uncover.

I've heard from 3 men, Classes of '74, '79, & '80, that uncover is the most ridiculous thing they have ever heard of. They all said if that would have gone on during their time, those yelling would have had their asses kicked. My dad is one of those guys, and after the colorado game this year, he said he would never go back to another A&M game and sit on the student side. He also discovered why people that went to other schools, thing Ags are arrogant *******s. It's because of stupid, classless events such as uncover.

No...it's because of kids like you. You weren't at A&M first...the tradition was.

These traditions were here a lot longer than you have been...and we never had these problems before (10 years ago, whatever). It's the fact that current students sound a lot more obnoxious and a lot lazier about participating in tradition. You mix the obnoxious ones with the lazy "I can boo if I want / I don't want to uncover EVER" and you have a problem.

Don't blame the tradition - it was fine before the apparent immature took over the student body.

Thank you Go Poastal. I'm only a junior right now, but I respect our traditions and want to be a part of them.
There are way too many lazy kids now-a-days.

Apparently a few of you have forgotten basic good manners. On game day for OU I was in the MSC bookstore and a guy who I'm guessing by his age was a student yelled "uncover" to some older gentleman of about 65 years. The old guy was oblivious of course, not being current on the A&M tradition of yelling at our guests.

What if the student had politely approached the man and explained the significance af the Memorial Student Center and of our tradition of removing any headwear, such as hats and visors, out of respect. I suspect the older man would have immediately removed his hat and been glad to know of the tradition.

Just a thought.

Yeah, that's bad, I wish I could have been behind that kid. Respect your elders.

On the other hand, students, especially in the stadium, should know better and not have to be told. That would solve all the problems.

Well, I agree with this post completely, but must admit that even I am getting tired of this becoming a continual argument. I just feel obligated to post on everyone of these threads I see that it has indeed been a tradition since at least '84 (if that is not long enough to be a tradition for some of you... then so be it). I guess I just have to chalk it up as the accelerated erosion of traditions after the loss of bonfire.

aTmAgs2004: Would your fiance have removed her visor in the MSC out of respect for a tradition? If so, then she should uncover for yells also, IMHO... If not, then so be it since I realize there is some 'double standards' as to which traditions/rules apply to women vs men (though I don't understand why). I feel these days I have to add IMHO because I have become aware that the recent post-bonfire classes have been trying to change/(eliminate) this tradition along with many others.

Uncovering is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of!

The few games that I forced myself to go to...I would wear a hat just to hear them gripe at me. I would never take it off. I wanted a hat that said "FU I dont uncover" so that I could turn it around.

One time at a game these idiots were yelling at a guy to uncover. He never did....finally they got to him and he took his hat off and had a big scar on his head frome a recent surgery. That sure shut those fools up.

it seems to me that *****ing about other people who dont follow a "tradition" to make you feel better about being redass has turned into quite the tradition at A&M nowadays.

When did the "uncover" thing first rear its ugly head? Years ago we could not have cared less if some non-reg didn't uncover. CTs did it to keep our biders and service caps from being stolen as "trophies" for some opposing student's frat house. Give the "uncover" thing a rest.

GoPostal....apparently you did not read my post. Former students are embarassed by this crap. My dad was extremely pissed and disappointed when he left the cu game. You are the one that has no idea what you are talking about. It's the little bas***** like the example above that are ruining A&M. So don't point your finger when you have no idea what you are talking about.

2007,

Actually, I did read your post and so did everyone else - we all understand it. It's just that not many agree with you.

I can understand your confusion - after all, I am sure class of '07 knows EVERYTHING.

Go Postal... his point is that uncover is a relatively new "tradition" it hasn't always been done. When I was at A&M girls didn't generally uncover. However, some punks have decided that the "tradition" is more important than being polite and curteous to old ags and visitors.

You're not even worth arguing with. You love to put me down because I'm class of 2007. Tell me when this so called tradition started??? Nobody I know can tell me. Ask a former student. The truth is, not many people agree with you.
