I was thinking about this yesterday as I was driving.

What is the most you have donated? Giving something to your children does not count, this should be to someone who is not related to you. If you donated an item, then tell us the value of the item.

Lots of high rollers here, so let's have it.

You'd definitely have to frame this as a percentage of net worth for it to matter at all. Also, is this in a single year? Or just one time payment

Related....but a 2nd cousin. Gave him my Nissan Versa with 75,000 miles. This was during the initial run-up of used car prices 4 or 5 years ago. Joker turned around sold it for $1,000 less than it cost new.

I donated all of my law textbooks to the local library. Those had to cost between 10-15 grand.

I gave the SHSU School of Music enough money to establish an endowment for trombone and brass studies scholarships. I consider it one of my finest achievements in life.

Let's not complicate things. Just a dollar amount is good.

Oh I remember, I heard a "Kars4Kids " ad on the radio as I was driving and it said you could now donate real estate also. So that led me to think about big amounts that some people might donate.

So if you donated a car worth about $10k, just say $10k rather than go into calculations of how much of your NW it amounted for.

Not this year. I am asking for the highest one time donation that you did. So if you did 10k in 2023 and 11k in 2024, then just say 11k in 2024 and tell us on what.

I gave away a car that had 13x,000 miles on it. It was 5 or 6 years old. I gave it to a family member that I felt needed it more than I did.

I sold my MIL my 4 yr old Benz E350 with 26k miles on it for $1 on time.
Spent too much $$ on trying to get into many posters Mom's pants back in the day as well.
Plenty to charities but that's really a waste of money.

Disappointing. Looks like Aggies just talk big, no one gives back.

I am included in this list. Not proud of myself.

My charitable contributions last year totaled more than a lot of people make in a year.

Is that better?

This is between me and God, ya Pharisee.

Is this a first? Has anyone ever been called a Pharisee on this site?

I hope you don't feel that way about me for posting what I did. The Lord has blessed me with the means to be generous, so generosity is a very important part of my life. It is always my hope to inspire others to be generous wherever they can.

Also, need the time. I gave $15,000 to my BIL (wife's younger brother) in the 90's, so he could go to Texas A&M. That was a lot more money back in the day, and a considerable % of my discretionary cash back then.

Later, wife left with the kids during Father's Day weekend, served me divorce papers that Monday, got about $300,000 (net that she didn't already spend during the marriage), and BIL shiat on me. That's what you get for being a nice guy.

There's a reason young men are weary of getting married these days.

I think a more appropriate question would be to ask if anyone has an account with Schwab Charitable (or whatever they're called today) or Fidelity Charitable or any other DAF (Donor Advised Fund). If not, may I recommend that one pursue this?

The only thing I'll add is this....

It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35)

Let not your left hand know what your right is doing (Matthew 6:3)

We have a low income school in our town that a friend works at. Originally we would donate Thanksgiving and Christmas complete meals to families that needed it. Did 15 to 20 a holiday and had everything. All they had to do was cook it.

Then people were jerks so we stopped that.

Two years ago we put bike racks at the school after we saw all the bikes laying around. Then my wife did a bunch of pairs of shoes, and we also donated 20 coats since we live where it gets cold. She also did a laptop program, I have no idea how many.

We do all of it anonymously since people are jerks when they get free stuff. Wife just shakes it off but it bugs me when people complain that it the wrong laptop or that we didn't cook the meal.

Wife also gives toiletries and underwear to the nearby mental hospital and a bunch of other stuff. Again none of it is in our name because if they know who gave it, they bug you for more incessantly.

We used to do charities but no more, most are a scam.

My dad volunteered at a church food pantry.

Vunnables would show up for free food and complain that the bottles of ketchup were store brand and not Heinz or Hunts.

Daughter volunteered at Thanksgiving one year with a class at school when she was a senior. They served meals and handed out coats to the kids in the families at George R. Brown convention center in Houston.

Lots of complaining from women who had kids getting free stuff that they didn't have stuff for the adults, didn't have all the foods they liked, all while sporting long manicured nails and $250 hair weaves and new cell phones.

My mom and aunt routinely take breakfast to all of the families at Ronald McDonald house in Galveston on the weekend. And also donate a lot of clothing to the men's shelter and women's shelter. Especially new underwear and socks for the men and new undergarments for the women. They said they really appreciate that because nobody donates those.

There is a lady my mom has helped who has complained about the help not being enough or on her schedule. She lived in a dilapidated house with her two adult sons. Neither has a license. They work at McDonalds part-time. Smoke a lot of pot. Get government assistance for stuff.

The house is wretchedly filthy inside.

The lady finally got approved to get some sort of government assisted apartment. Tiny place on the island but room just for her. Her sons can make it on their own or not.

My aunt bought the lady a microwave that was on sale at Target. The lady didn't want anything she could conventionally cook with because she's never going to cook.

She complained that the microwave wasn't as nice as she hoped.

I told my mom to cut off contact with her and she can find someone else to sponge off of. Hope she does it.

A lot of good things done on here. Not surprised Ags are doing it. Also not surprised to hear about the ingratitude. "No good deed goes unpunished".

I haven't ever given a substantial sum of money but I've volunteered with organizations that help needy/underprivileged. I encourage everyone to do it or keep doing it. I suspect the majority of people on TexAgs do. It only takes a few positive interactions to make it seem worthwhile. A smile. A Thank You.

I donated my left arm to someone in need of a transplant.

At least that's what I'd like to think happened to it after I passed out drunk by the railroad tracks.
