I'm sure there are some HOA board members that serve to actually hold up the CCRs of a community. But it seems like most are on a power trip. And the good ones get tired of dealing with all the bull**** of someone reporting their neighbor because they left their trash bin out overnight because it was raining.

God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

I've lived in two HOAs now in my life. The experience has been meh to f'ing awful. The one meh wayyyyy overcharged for little amenity support but largely kept things moderate and sane. The other is pretty much what you think of when you think of tyrannical oversight. Worst part was, the original pres. eventually got voted out and the replacement ended up being worse somehow. Figures. That dude had actual snitches that roamed around. Thought it was funny. Called them his "gang". Left California for good after that one. (Among other reasons of course)

Vowed to never live again under the aegis of another Average Joe/Jane. The gubment already screws me hard enough. I don't need a Karen or basement dweller to add on top too.

I've lived in two HOA neighborhoods, experienced no real issues in either one. That being said, I do prefer my current non-HOA neighborhoods.

HOA's have their issues, but I can leave my garage open and go on vacation for a week and everything will still be there. I also don't have to worry about my neighbors putting up a 12 foot skeleton that I have to look at year-round or a broken down Bayliner sitting in the driveway with four flat tires. I've never filed a complaint with HOA and we have never had one reported on us. Keep your yard mowed and your house from falling into disrepair and it's pretty easy to get along with the rules.
