WFH day, dog sleeping on bed. My motivation to get started is in the basement, and I don't have a basement in this house.

In the words of the lady in front of me in the checkout line this morning, "it's a good day to be productive".

Semi annual wellness exam done early this morning. Lab vampires have taken their sample so now I get coffee.
Because a good day starts with good coffee.
Make it a good one in spite of what humankind and the Straits of Hormuz Hospitality Committee are up to.

Woke up last night after two hours of sleep

Was awake for maybe two hours

Eventually went back to sleep off and on until time to walk dogs

Tacos purchased and consumed much earlier than normal

Funeral today. And then some kind of reception and maybe some family visits later today or in the following days

Chores when I have some time

Need to exercise today. Didn't get enough steps yesterday or Sunday after getting 16,000+ on Saturday

This forecast is tired and needs an update. It's been the same for a while

Skipped breakfast because I wasn't hungry. I hope I don't regret that decision in about an hour

Making Chicken Thighs marinated in Japanese BBQ sauce for dinner tonight. I just bake them in the oven for about 40 mins. Family loves them- you should try them.

Up at 4 AM.

Four mile run at 5 AM with my run group. the girls pushed me hard. First hard run since hurting my knee a month ago. Felt great.

It doesn't feel so good now, but it's not the knee - just everything else.

My boss is on business in Switzerland all week so kind of a week off for me, even though I'm here.

Fly to Seattle in one week to start ten day Alaskan cruise.

  • Did not sleep well at all last night.
  • Working on dumb tax stuff today.
  • My new home office has so much more natural light and I am loving it.
  • I am worried Phyllis (the stray cat I have partially adopted) was injured. I could try an trap her but I am not sure how to go about it. In addition to Phyllis, we also have racoons, opossums, and foxes that stop by every night. How do I trap just the one cat?
  • Have fun out there folks!
Phyllis last night. The injury doesn't look bad but I am still concerned.

  • Cirque du Soleil was back at 3:00 AM. We locked the cats out of the room and Parlor Panther #1 just kept bonking the door for hours.
  • Still recovering from heat exhaustion from out working on the cabin
  • Made some delicious coffee
  • Tacos a Go Go for lunch

-Ran 4 miles; humidity sucks
-Walked across the bridge to get coffee
-I have never taken much of an interest in genealogy, but went down a rabbit hole the other night and started finding out some fascinating stuff. Turns out my great-great grandmother was a straight up ho.
-She ditched Great-Great-Grandad and their six kids sometime around the turn of the last century to run off to Dallas with his baby brother, who was 18 years younger.
-Dallas, amirite?
-Bunch of boring work meetings for the rest of the day
-Decide whether to do what I should do (paperwork) or what I want to do (go to the ballyard) tonight

Benny's razor was delivered this afternoon. He has joined the ranks of the clean-shaven. I bought a new razor for myself as well.

I hate political signs and stickers and flags etc. I know it's normal but yuck.

And studies have shown they have no effect. They are more of a virtue signaling tool than anything.

I found a number of Python models online that will predict the outcome of each day's MLB games. One of them in particular claimed to be .638 against the line. Not sure if that was for 2025 or this year, but I was sold and downloaded the model.

Using ChatGPT, I've made a system that checks every morning for that day's games and then downloads the lines on those games from eight sportsbooks. It then uses results of completed games to "train" the model... I admittedly don't really know what training means other than it supposedly gets better with each training session. Each morning the model is "trained" based on what happened the night before. I'm also using the model to make predictions on that day's games.

Today is the first day that I've run this. I'm downloading scores a few times an hour, and keeping track of the results as the night goes on. It isn't real money at this point, but this is a fun little project I've started. I'm 7-4 on the night with four of the 15 games not yet complete. Despite the house advantage, I'm still up on the night. I'd never bet on every game with real money. I'm looking for particular types of games that the model is good at predicting.

Some of tonight's results:

EDIT - The Astros just cost me $100 by losing to the pitiful Angels.

Genealogy can be an entertaining rabbit hole. So far the most unusual I've got is a guy who married his recently widowed cousin 15 years his senior. My guess is that he stepped up for the family to help raise her kid. They moved to oklahoma and after he put in his twenty years, got his pension, and cousin-wife passed; he and step-cousin-daughter moved up to new England to found a lesbian community theatre.
