Can't speak to that. You tell me since it obviously bothers you.

I work in a field that evolves daily and is nothing like whar I got into. The people I know that have stagnated are the ones crying about learning anything new or hang out all day whining about whatever minority moved into their neighborhood or how this aint how it used to be back in the day. They've sat around waiting to be handed the corner office and big accounts and get all angry when a new person comes in (especially a woman or minority!) and passes them up because the new person wants to advance their career.

People who have not stagnated and have progressed and put in the work to stay current get into management or biz dev if they want no part of management.

Capitalism requires winners and losers. You get to influence your own career.

You can say that for your situation but there are plenty of places where they are going to interview candidates based on gender and race to make sure they meet whatever quota is required.

That means some other candidates are going to be passed over.

Do you think that career advancement generally ends? And you're just treading water to the finish line. (Still putting in good effort, but just realizing it is what it is.)

Depending on the company and use of AI, 50-55.

If you'd rather be a black woman or a brown man, just say it. We all know how great those types get treated.

Don't most air line pilots and engineers for big oil companies retired by 57? Somewhat related to the conversation. That's very nice if they are.

Airline pilots have mandatory retirement at 65. Sure they could go earlier but they can't fly commercial (at least not the big ones) after 65.

Large companies 58 is peak, after that age corporations are looking to off load you and other companies have no interest. If you make it to 65 downsizing will come soon.
