Smoke and silence.

Among the ruins, one wall stood alone. Within the wall, a last voice said,

over and over, "Today is August 5, 2026, today is August 5, 2026, today is …"

Nothing to do with ray bradbury, I just thought we were posting random quotes in this thread. Plus this just seemed up the GB's alley.

Martin, is that you?

"As president I would demand a science fiction library featuring an ABC of the overlords of the genre: Asimov, Bester, Clarke." --"What about Bradbury?" --"I'm aware of his work."

Someone posted it today in a social media feed which caused me to go down a rabbit hole.

To me it was very reminiscent of going to Rockport the week after Hurricane Harvey hit. I went with my father-in-law to check on their home. We got there, and we were essentially the only people in the neighborhood. Their house survived the storm, but most of the ones in the neighborhood had gotten ripped apart. I kept hearing this intermittent beeping that made me thing construction was going on, but then I realized there was no equipment sound to go with the beeping. I soon realized all the beeping was coming from the house alarms from the remnants of the homes. They were issuing their final sounds of alert on battery power. It was really creepy.
