Was going to go to ND but went to the 1985 Thanksgiving A&M vs tu game in CS. Came home applied to A&M in Dec 1985 was accepted right away and the rest is history. I was 3rd generation Aggie and now my kids have made it 4th.

ND screwed me over on some scholarship money and I've hated them ever since.

A&M was were I wanted to go and was guaranteed admission based on my grades and SAT score.

I also applied to UH as a backup plan in case I couldn't go away to college and SFA because my parents went there. No desire to really go to either.

I flirted with the Naval Academy but didn't want to go through the congressional nomination crap and wasn't confident I'd get in. I felt like I had Navy recruiters contacting me weekly.

Only applied to A&M. Never even occurred to me to apply anywhere else. I was a third generation Aggie.

Not sure what I'd do if I had it to do over again. I had a lot of options but I never realized it myself. And nobody around me ever encouraged me to explore them. It was always a foregone conclusion that I'd go to A&M.

I really don't know how my parents would've reacted if I'd said I wanted to check out other schools.

Everything worked out fine. But if I have kids I'll definitely encourage them to explore their options.

Late 90s, UT required an essay, aTm didn't, so I applied only to aTm and got accepted.

Applied to a few schools, but ended up where I felt like I belonged.

Only A&M - also out of laziness more than anything. And a function of my high school - if you went to college at all that was winning. There wasn't a lot of talk in my circles about college.

My dream school was UNC Chapel Hill but didn't even apply. No idea if I would have had a shot or not. I know it's extremely difficult to get into out of state now.

Am strongly encouraging my kids to be less lazy than I was and look around all over. They are in better schools than I was growing up , which will help set a much higher bar.

Yeah... Undergraduate GPA was "underwhelming." But I smoked the GRE.

USC, Notre Dame, Baylor, Michigan, A&M. Ags won. 1977. Graduated 7 out of 534. Killed the SAT. No scholarship money.

I essentially got accepted over the telephone at the last minute. Went to the last student conference. My parents said I couldn't go to A&M unless I got on-campus housing. Impossible, right. Nope. I joined the Corps to get on-campus housing. They were shocked but gave their blessing. I was at FOW the next week.
