Beautiful sunny, warm summer day in west GA/east AL. People/animals all provisioned in our household and coffee is made. Good coffee.
Because a good day starts with good coffee.
Make it a good one in spite of what humankind and the New York Times are up to.

Sunny and an even 70F when I bought my coffee this morning. Would have been nice to take up to 47F like they did on this date in 1891!

Remaining sunny and forecast to top out at 91F today. Mercifully no where near the 111F we hit on this date in 1936. 1936 was a CRAZY year for North American weather, BTW.

Planning tonight's movie watching as there's no baseball. From Starz's offerings, I've selected: Coherence (2013) and Moon (2009). Wonder what the chance are that I can get my kid to watch either one with me?!?

Busy morning. First two meetings were good.

Mom just let me and my brother know she has a medical procedure Monday. It's not surgery and general anesthesia but it would be good for one of us to be there. I'm scheduled to present at a conference so really don't think I can be at this procedure and I'm irritated about it.

Lots to do this afternoon.

Guitar lesson and errands later.

I missed that you were laid off amidst all the other going-ons in your world. I know how much you enjoyed your job. I hope you'll be able to find similar / rewarding work in the same space, if that's what you want. You've had a lot to do! This year will be so memorable for future you!

Why do parents do that? They wait to tell you about medical things because they 'don't want to worry you.' My grandmother had BREAST CANCER but didn't tell me until she was through it! I was so mad!

Goes back to the not wanting to show vulnerability thing we talked about in the other thread, with an added dose of not wanting to be a burden or rely on people who have historically relied on you.

Years ago I was staying at my folks house while my dad was out of town. Early one morning, my mom started feeling chest pains and drove herself to the ER. I was literally sleeping in the same house and I didn't know until she called me from the hospital. I had a few words for ol' Mom about that.

My mom has been waiting on a date to have the procedure done for a month or six weeks. This probably isn't on her. The medical provider probably just let her know.

It shouldn't be a huge deal but I don't see a way I can be there at this point. I'm hopeful my brother can be there. I might ask my wife or one of the kids to go if my brother can't go.

I wonder if it was my department.

I found a Windows benchmark called Passmark. It's exactly what I want in a benchmark. Measures a little of everything, and then you rate your machine's performance against other enthusiasts. It confirmed what I knew. I need a new GPU (used to call them video cards) badly. I'm happy with the rest of my setup.

I feel bad for anyone trying to buy PC parts this year. I was lucky and got all of my parts last October for a big upgrade.

In October I snagged a 5090 for MSRP off the shelf at Best Buy, decided it was overkill and not worth the money and returned it. Could have easily made a profit by holding and selling but wasn't anticipating the market being this wonky.

Currently running a Radeon 9070 XT and it is still overkill for most everything I do.
