I had a class with a gal in Fall 2001 who was super excited that she'd just gotten an offer from Andersen. Womp womp.

I was a Meteorology major in the early 90s. I don't remember any employer ever visiting except for the Alaskan National Weather Service.

If it was Andersen Consulting, she was ok. If it was Arthur Andersen, poor thing.

It was Arthur Andersen, alas. I'm sure things ultimately turned out okay for her.

Philosophy - everyone was trying to get into law school. This is still true for the majority of PHIL majors today as it was 2004-2008.

Mid-late 1980's engineering was also Anderson

Exxon and Mobil not too far behind.

I interviewed in Houston for Schlumberger for a final position with their international division. One opening, four candidates. Three petroleum and one mechanical (me) - the petroleum guys dismissed me and laughed even in my presence. During the private interviews I had a British guy get in my face and say they'd send me to Libya and guys would shoot at me. I just said, well it surely would not be the first time. At the end they called us in and said the positive was offered to me and the others were not in consideration if I turned down the position. I just snickered and a week later I turned it down for an offer from General Dynamics (not Ft. Worth) - then I quit and went to grad school!

At the Anderson social my graduating semester an ME who cried in Thompson Hall to a Lab prof about ruining his 4.0 GPA and graduated a semester before greeted me like he was royalty. I just said, hey didn't we have lab with Dr. X a while back.

If I say the name and that guy is on TexAgs, he'll know who I am as we were there. I'm sure he made millions as that was his entire purpose in his life but it was just funny when Dr. X said "if I knew you had a 4.0 I would have given you a B no matter what work you did. No crying ass baby should ever get a 4.0 out of A&M ME."

He got the B for his work but the extra when he cried was so great.

People bash majors like this and English. But, time and again, these are the main avenues to law school.

This thread just reminded me how crazy things have changed. I was on the inflection point where it shifted. Feel like working for a no name startup is the goal now. I dont think any of the big names carry any premium anymore. At least in engineering.

Yes, my roommate at A&M was trying to get into Anderson Consulting. He also had an internship from Halliburton.

I would, if I had the body and face to do so. I didn't though, which makes me sad.

There are a few that definitely hold out for the primes but yeah, you are largely right in my experience too. Big Corpo does NOT have the pull it used to at all. Damn near hated in some cases.

Graduated in December, 1978, in accounting. Most of us were looking to the Big 8 firms. Seems as if more than a few of the professors pushed the Big 8 route. I interviewed with 5 of them and two national firms solely to get mileage money for Christmas, lol.

I don't recall there being any one specific Big 8 firm everyone hoped to get hired by. I remember thinking any of them would do.

I have a bunch of fun interview stories:
KPMG interview when the final interview they asked if I would go the extra mile and I told them yes, as an example I stayed up all night and didn't use the hotel in Dallas except for a morning shower so I could see Vanilla Ice in college station and got to Dallas at 6am. They gave me an immediate offer. Lol
