Exxon and Mobil not too far behind.
I interviewed in Houston for Schlumberger for a final position with their international division. One opening, four candidates. Three petroleum and one mechanical (me) - the petroleum guys dismissed me and laughed even in my presence. During the private interviews I had a British guy get in my face and say they'd send me to Libya and guys would shoot at me. I just said, well it surely would not be the first time. At the end they called us in and said the positive was offered to me and the others were not in consideration if I turned down the position. I just snickered and a week later I turned it down for an offer from General Dynamics (not Ft. Worth) - then I quit and went to grad school!
At the Anderson social my graduating semester an ME who cried in Thompson Hall to a Lab prof about ruining his 4.0 GPA and graduated a semester before greeted me like he was royalty. I just said, hey didn't we have lab with Dr. X a while back.
