Don't understand why a lifelong Texas company would move from Houston to Baton Rouge.

What's the backstory?

What do they gain from moving to Baton Rouge?

Would Brown & Root have ever been a large contractor without all the big federal contracts LBJ got for them?

I've often wondered why Brown & Gay Engineers is now known as BGE.

Same kinda thing.. what's going on there, and why would they change such a longstanding company name?

The first time I had ever heard of Brown and Gay I was talking to one of our CAD techs (who happened to be Mexican and gay). I saw a map with the B&G logo and asked the CAD tech if he was operating a side biz or something.

He thought it was funny, no calls to HR needed.

I used to work by that building so it's always stuck with me.
Found out more recently one of the founders was Dick Gay lol. Like, he actually went by Dick.

When I first heard Kellogg merged with Brown & Root, I wondered what a cereal company had to do with a construction company.

Everyone I've ever known who knew him or the firm through work has said pretty much the same thing. "And he actually goes by Dick! Why wouldn't you just say Richard?"

Kellogg Tower was a dingy, gross place. Think "liminal spaces" and the movie Backrooms.

That was how Kellogg Tower felt when I used to visit clients there.
