I don't like my job at all, but I really do like my manager. He's a very nice guy and was really supportive when Tanya died. It's annual self-assessment time at work, and he's begged us to get them in early. He has to read each one and provide his own written evaluation for something like 75 or 80 people. That having been said, it's my least favorite job duty, and I always wait until the last minute. It isn't possible to write in company jargon until there's pressure on me. I was like this with English papers in high school. Tomorrow at 4 PM is the deadline, so I'll be hard at work this time tomorrow.
Cloudy and warm today. Supposed to be 70F this afternoon. Cold front overnight, and it will be in the upper 20s in time for my morning coffee tomorrow. Until today, we were forecast to get snow Friday night into Saturday, but that's apparently crapped out. This has been a disappointing winter in terms of snow.
I've decided I should learn a new scripting language. I've written in the bourne and bash shells, and that's it for *NIX. Over the years I've bought books on AWK and Perl but never gotten more than a couple of chapters in. Python seems like the hot language to learn and is supposed to be easy. I'm kind of leaning towards Perl. I like the book I have, and it's still a very useful language to know (AWK is antiquated). Now I just need a project (i.e. something to write in this new language). I've been thinking trying to write something that will scour websites and harvest analytics data for MLB games. That might be biting off more than I can chew though.
I had a lot to say this afternoon!
