At Halloween, I answer the door with a bucket of KFC, so that I can be a 6 Foot Man Eating Chicken.

Is fried chicken different by region of the country?

My Mom was a terrible and uninventive cook. Only fried chicken I had growing up was KFC or Tinsley's.

Generally southern fried chicken isn't deep fried, it's shallow fried in a cast iron pan where the pieces make contact with the bottom of the pan as they cook and get a bit darker. Because it's a pan and not a pot the tops of the pieces are exposed during cooking so it also takes a little longer because it's not cooking from all directions at the same time. Any fast food fried chicken is going to be deep fried, but at a southern restaurant you can find traditional southern fried chicken.

I like fried chicken, but I don't eat it much these days. Similar to ribs, my beard gets way too messy.

If I need protein- Chicken Strips

If I want tasty flavor and crispy goodness- Fried Chicken (I just eat a bit of the chicken, but a lot of the breading)

If I want to feel like a child but also hurt with regret- Chicken Nuggets

Well, the hair used to be on top of my head, but migrated south about twenty years ago.

Sunday dinner growing up was fried chicken.

A whole bird parted up, dredged and cooked in cast iron and an inch or so of crisco. Cooked on one side, flipped and cooked on the other. The white meat cooked in one run then the dark meat. Then while it sits cooling, the pan drippings and flour from the dredge made the roux for milk gravy for rice and biscuits to be smothered in.

Hearts and gizzards fried that way were treats. If the bird didn't have any it was an unhappy little mathguy.

I was in B/CS a couple of weeks ago and ate at Wings 'n More for the first time since 2013. The quality of their chicken strips has really dropped. The strips were better at Chicken Oil Co.

Fried Chicken:
1. KFC Original Recipe
2. Popeyes Crunchy
3. Church's crunchy
4. KFC crunchy
5. Gus's (unless you like salty chicken in which case it moves up to #3)

Chicken Strips:
1. chick-fil-a
2. Wings n more
3. Chicken express
4. Chilis
5. All fried chicken places seem to have above average strips too.

100. Whataburger (don't know why they can't do decent strips)

Best fried chicken I've ever had was at Time-Out in Chapel Hill, NC. Their two claims to fame... they were on Man v Food, and Micheal Jordan was a regular when he was a student at UNC.

I like Golden Chick best for fried chicken as well as for strips. They also have some good catfish. The fries are some of the best, too. Especially when dipped in gravy.

I just gained 5 pounds typing that paragraph.

In the late 90's, when they did 25 cent beers and wings and one was young enough to not care what happened to ones stomach from an order of extra hot, extra wet; wings n more was great. Therefore, I do not completely concur with senior slicer. However, I offer a blue diamond.

The wings I got there Sunday were the smallest wings I've ever been served at a restaurant. My wife let me finish her strips and they were very mid. It's going to be a long time before I go back
