Curious- why do people fly in scrubs? See it every time I fly. Discuss.

It's a thirst signal. They want you to take them to the mile high club.

They are pretty dang comfortable. Better than the heifers that wear flannel pajama pants on flights.

I've flown in scrubs a couple times and it was this reason. Work a full shift and head straight to the airport for a late flight and I just didn't feel like changing.

Plus like someone else said, they're really comfortable.

Zero reason to fly in scrubs. I don't know why it is so, but I absolutely abhor being seen outside of the office or hospital setting in scrubs.

Somebody apparently got a phone number wrong and added me to a distribution list for travel nurses. I just delete the messages so I can't really explain it, but seems that there is a decent amount of demand for nurses willing to travel. I get a notice about an opening a couple times a week.

I get that medical professionals need to travel. Perhaps the anal retentive surgery faculty that trained me at the TAMU CVM 25 years ago were overly sensitive about wearing clothing from the hospital to public places and vice versa.

there is a class of doctor for whom not letting people know theyre a doctor is like holding in a sneeze.

i assume people in scrubs are dental hygienists though

Takes no more than a couple of minutes to change.

These people just want to let people know that they're a doctor or nurse and that they're important people.

Agreed. Scrubs are a duty uniform.

But but you can now pay $75 each for tops and bottoms and have your name stenciled on them. (Yeah it doesn't make it any better."

No no.

The only "important people" in healthcare now are the glorious bean counter overlords in the "c-suite."

I've had to do it multiple times. No time to change between the OR and airport.

Maybe. A lot of device reps have to wear scrubs and travel to cover cases.

Ewwww.

You shared germs from the OR with everyone in the airport and on the plane.

No, you wear scrubs over your scrubs at most facilities

I took my scrubs off ASAP when leaving the hospital. If I was doing anything after work that didn't include a stop at home first, I changed at work. I was not interested in spreading the Brack germs anywhere else.

I don't know if I've ever been on a flight with someone wearing scrubs. I've never really noticed what other people are wearing. I have worn shorts and flip flops on a flight before. It was glorious! I'm sure scrubs can't be far behind that level of comfort.

Maybe. A lot of device reps have to wear scrubs and travel to cover cases.

But they will still be going into the OR.

I wear my scrubs in the OR

Ive never flown in scrubs but if I had to fly somewhere to be in a case I would likely fly in scrubs.

Maybe that's what you're saying?

Those scrub dispensers make it almost completely unnecessary. Those that use rfid or code can be set so the reps can scrub up and then change back while leaving.

Of course the following should be noted:

None of this applies to anesthesiologists. They do whatever the **** they want to.

They are the warrant officers of the medical world.

The upfront cost is steep. I've not seen a long term cost analysis looking at how much it saves because you are not replacing scrubs that walk out the building every day.
