That's not the joke.

The way I always heard it was Col. Travis, seeing 4000 Mexican troops assembled outside the Alamo, turned to Davy Crockett and asked,

"Are we pouring a slab today?"

In the chemical plants on the coast, the joke morphed into "who called in all these insulators?"

Keep in mind, the Hispanic guys I worked with told the most non-pc Hispanic jokes you ever heard.
