Yes they will take it initially, but they will also weigh it to ensure you have enough postage stamps on it to mail. If it does not, it will eventually make it back to you with insufficient postage marked on it.

There is one of those new group mail boxes in a development down the street so I drop in outgoing mail on the seldom occasion I have to mail anything.
