Merry Christmas GB, you filthy animals.
And a Yippee Ki Yay M-F'ers.
Here is one of the Christmas epiphanies I had this year.
When I was a kid I used to HATE HATE HATE the movie A Christmas Story. The main character is a liar and throws his friends under the bus whenever its convenient to do so and doesn't feel guilty about it at all....little brother is a whiny *****.
Not much to like about them.
But all the conniving and first person views of Ralphy are just a build up.
The movie is ACTUALLY about the parents.
A long suffering mom who does her best to be the buffer and balance between a strict father and kids she wants to over mother because they are her life.
And a dad who has given himself over to a life of average mediocrity to pull down a stable living but still finds ways to make life interesting and exciting for his kids and though he comes across as disinterested or disengaged from his family rises to the occasion when it really counts.
The look on his face as he watches his kid open THE present.
The Way he salvages the turkey disaster and instead of yelling or throwing a tantrum about losing out on the ONE thing he loves, he turns it into a lovely Holiday memory so his wife doesn't lose it after all her hard work. That is a father and a good man.
So to all the parents, Aunts, Uncles, and other Adults who go the extra mile to make Christmas a special time of year and create magic for the kids in their lives.
Merry Christmas especially to you today!
What you do matters.
