I am okay a dog, service animal or not being on the patio at a restaurant....if ur eating outside the wind will carry most diseases away.

Inside is another matter.

Texas law says that service dogs have to be allowed in restaurants. Which is great and noone who needs a service animal should be turned away.

Unfortunately management can't do anything if the owner claims that an animal is a service dog even if they are obviously not a service dog.

Because the same statute does not say that service dogs have to be designated as such or that the person they are "serving" has to be able to provide proof of their purpose and training.

Texas needs to get that figured out.

I take my dog to a lot of places, he was in training to be a service animal before we got him but he tends to bark at some strangers of his choosing hence him being kicked out of the program.

Home Depot and Lowes welcome dogs so I will regularly bring him with me, but the only restaurants I take him to have designated dog-friendly patios.

It's ridiculous when people try to pass of pets as service animals, especially since I have two good friends who are vision impaired and have legitimate, trained seeing eye dogs and even they get some blowback about their dogs at times.

Just respect the rules and don't make it bad for people who actually have a need to have a service dog with them.

The dogs in HEB and Home Depot piss me off more than patio dogs. However, Friday we went to a nicer place to eat and someone had a doodle with them. We rolled our eyes but that dog didn't move and we never knew he was there so whatever. Then a couple rolls out on the patio with a chihuahua in a stroller, who then proceeds to bark up a f'n storm and we almost said something until they decided to move it around to prevent it from seeing the other dog and waitress that was making it bark. Love, love, love my dogs at The Home Depot. Some I've been seeing for years.

Couple months ago hardware associate put his face (as usual) too close to a dog's face. Predictable result, and resulted in new policies (in our store): For owners: dogs must be on a leash. For employees: No petting dogs. Told my department supervisor that literally I will be petting dogs, and it is a "hill I would die on" as I have spent years getting to know the "regulars". Consistently got the evil eye from my boss who, in return, got the, "I will walk if you want to press it". Further, she knows I don't have to be there, so that's a plus. The no petting policy lasted a month. Grocery stores... reataurants... keep out the dogs. The Home Depot? C'mon, man.

Go to Amazon and search "service dog vest" - the top
result is the vest you see on every dog that is a "service dog" but pees on the carpet.

I'm okay with it. First time I encountered a dog at a grocery store…..Safeway, Lake Tahoe….I thought it was kind of funny. You'd see these owners with little foo-foo dogs prancing around in the little outfits and fancy collars. You wouldn't see very many of them. Maybe 1 or 2 or none each visit.

Dude at the home depot near my house used to have two massive Chow chows that he would bring to the store. Some days he would get a big flatbed cart and push them around the store. They were super friendly and chill with everyone, even little kids.
