When we hire, 50+ hour work weeks are the expectation. Also, I don't pay attention to the company vacation schedule. When my offices are open I go regardless including Veteran's day

Free lunch today at Applebees. Not a lot of food but holy crap it was good. Went to the brewery tonight and only paid for one beer out of three. Then heading to Texas Roadhouse for a free dinner. I went to war at 18 and had all kinds of difficulties since I got out.

The brass quintet recital I went to tonight played the US Armed Forces Medley and I was the only veteran in the room. I wish more young people would recognize the value of military service.

No, I was an intel weenie at NSA and AIA.

I used a "floating holiday" and took Veteran's Day off work this week.

I didn't serve in the military, but I have several friends and family members that did/do serve. One of my local friends arranges free guided fishing trips for veterans and I helped with some of the logistics this week including shuttling the vets to and from the launch site and cooking a hot lunch for them to eat when they got back. One of the Marine vets asked me why I did the driving but didn't go fishing and I told him I wasn't eligible to fish on the boat that day since I wasn't a vet.

His response floored me: "But you still helped do all this for me?"

Mine took off for veterans day...but raised the flaps when coming in to land...

I took a vacation day to go see some veterans in a nursing home where I did my leg rehab last year. My company works on Veteran's Day, because tire shops need tires to sell. I am a veteran and it doesn't bother me that I have to work on Veteran's Day.

I get Memorial Day off and I didn't die in a war. I get Christmas off and I'm not a deity who incarnated.

Ironically, I'm a veteran and don't get Veteran's Day off.
