now that the free-thinking world seems to be waking up to college mostly being a big business like anything else, does anybody know somebody who turned the tables on the higher education establishment?

Im talking attending lectures without student credentials, BS'ing their resume with degree that wasn't awarded, some combination of fraud at a career fair that led to a successfull employment opportunity?

Your examples aren't "turning the tables on a higher education establishment" they are examples of fraud - would be no different than putting on your resume you worked at company xyz but didn't or were a VP when you weren't or had a medical license or passed the bar exam.

without going into the intracacies of the the higher education system and the corporations that sponsor them, what if i told you i had a high school friend that went to a semesters worth of mgmt 209 class with me, took what he learned from keith swim, dr. jennings and the like, and parlayed that into a succesfull marketing career, all without ever having a course hour to his name?

What if I told you I knew some very smart people who never went to a single college class and they parlayed that into a very successful career including starting their own business without having a course hour to their name?

well, id say you obviously aren't talking about yourself, cause those people clearly at least knew how to follow direction, unlike yourself.

Your anecdotal example doesn't mean anything.

College works well for some people, and not others.

And if I'm hiring for a position that requires expertise in thermodynamics, I'm not hiring someone who faked their way through one college class.

I wouldn't hire someone in the medical field who faked their way either.

Or an engineer, chemist, veterinarian,

His example is also so clueless that the guys supposedly sat in a sophomore management course and "parlayed" it into a marketing career. Those are not exactly the same and management and marketing are both skills that can be learned on the job or somewhat by natural skills. Wife works in a field that uses lots of high end marketing professionals (there are more top people in that field with an English degree than a Marketing degree)

I only had six hours my last semester and wanted to go to go sit in random classes just to see how the rest of the school existed outside of north campus. But I always got lazy and ended up just going home every time. I legitimately regret that now. For someone who considers themselves fairly redass, there is a shocking amount of TAMU stuff I never experienced.

And in this day and age, we all know YouTube is the best educational platform in the world and it's not even close. Especially for STEM topics. Some semesters I would have been happier sending all my tuition to YouTubers tbh.

If you are in a career where someone without a college degree could succeed, you are in a pretty horrible career.

The most successful person in my high school class went to HVAC school instead of college. He now owns multiple business locations in 3 cities and employees 200 technicians.

The guy has more money than he knows what to do with.

But I will say the term "educated" has lost some of its meaning with so many people having degrees in bull**** like sociology (the gutter of academia), *insert whatever oppressed group here* studies, and other worthless **** from liberal arts colleges.

Working on my 4th degree now and I'll probably have six by the time I'm done. Definitely worth the time, effort, and money for the positive impact on my life and career.

now that the free-thinking world seems to be waking up to college mostly being a big business like anything else, does anybody know somebody who turned the tables on the higher education establishment?

Im talking attending lectures without student credentials, BS'ing their resume with degree that wasn't awarded, some combination of fraud at a career fair that led to a successfull employment opportunity?

I was watching a documentary the other day called BitConned where 3 guys basically scammed people out of 25 million dollars + in a cryptocurrency scheme. One of the main guys who's pretty much the focus of the doc put on his LinkedIn he graduated from Harvard and all kinds of fake details. Weirdly kind of proud about it too and how it all ended up shaking out. More or less put forth the idea that the true way to riches these days is to scam the heck out of people. At the end of the doc he states he's working on starting a company that would give out loans to desperate people with 50% interest

This post made me think of that doc I guess. It was pretty good especially if you have an interest in crypto or tech in general

Sounds like someone I'm connected to on social media. He posted yesterday that he got his "official bitcoin trader certificate." Suddenly his social media posts were a barrage of crypto spam. He's also a "certified life coach."

Are there a lot of companies not verify that info?

We do education, certification, and employment verification on every new hire in addition to background checks.

I get people that lie on their resume about stuff and it's usually pretty obvious. Same thing with all the resume "hacks" and using AI to write a resume and cover letter.

That is just not true. Had my own CPA practice for over 30 years and most years only one, or maybe two, of the top 20 or 30 income earners had a college degree. The others made a ton of money, most of them over a million a year, and never set foot on a college campus as a student.
