When did this become a thing? If the light is on at the home, go knock. If it's off, move on. Don't parade your kids to my driveway when I'm pulling in from work with all my **** still in my hands.

If you start at 5pm, you can probably get in 5-10 neighborhoods before 10. Always walk up with a half empty beer.

Why would you **** in your hands? Sounds like that would be a bigger problem than some kids coming to your house for candy.

It was thing in 1978, because kids were trick or treating during daylight in Halloween.

thing ive noticed is trick r treatin is a MUCH earlier event than when we was kids. we didnt even start until it got dark in the late 80s/early 90s. now they are pretty much done by 8:00 pm. how am i supposed to scare your little Fck trophy when its still daylight, karen?

I saw big groups out already around 5:30 or 6. Surprised how many.

Didn't get any at my door until after dark, just a handful of smaller groups.

I had a few before dark, but they were mostly kids in the 2-7 range.

It's because they pushed the time change back. It used to be dark by 6:15. Now it's 7:15.

Back in my day we didn't start until 8:00 and finished after 10:30.

In my present day, I usually start and finish in 0:30.

Back in my day, we stopped trick or treating altogether because some psycho poisoned his kid with cyanide in a pixie stick

I was just saying this yesterday to a group. Halloween was never the same for my brother and I after that happened.

What's up with the kids who don't say anything or say "Happy Halloween"? WTF? It's TRICK OR TREAT, bit****, I'm not giving up candy until you say it.

I think it partly depends on weekday or weekend and age of the kids. Younger kids go earlier in my observation.

Hell, most just run up to the door, grab a fistful and haul ass. They ain't got time to say anything.

I always make the older kids, like teenagers, say trick-or treat. You can tell some of them really don't want to.

I had trick or treaters for the first time in at least five years. A total of four kids the entire night, and two of them were actual babies.

Impressive they could get around well enough to knock on the door.

Parents were dragging them around in an Academy wagon. I just assumed the candy was going to the parents.

Is there still a formula shortage?

Maybe they feed the kids candy instead.

This. We have two very young kids. Due to bedtime routine / baths etc we have to do it earlier.

Trick-or-treating is dying off in a lot of places, and even where there are still remnants, the kids are clueless and don't know what to do.

Diwali killed Halloween in our neighborhood this year.

We only had a dozen or so kids all night long. The little ones were out early, as would be expected, and done before it got dark, and the older ones came later.

Usually, we have more than a few before dark, but not this year. And we didn't have anywhere near the number we usually have.

There are three pretty nice neighborhoods in our town and all three used to get hit pretty hard. Traffic so bad it barely crawled, people pulling trailers with hay bales and 15 kids on it. A lot of people complained because if someone needed an ambulance, or there was a fire, it would take ages to get to the scene. Then they made the trick or treaters park along the highway and walk in. At some point, that stopped but so did the numbers of kids going door to door.

I didn't go out much during the day, but I guess these kids' parents dressed up for work in some sort of costume like got popular somewhere along the way.
