What are you giving in these situations assuming they just want honeymoon cash? Unsure if what I've been giving is sufficient with inflation going hog wild.

  • HS friend, college roommate. Destination wedding at an all inclusive, Mexico.
  • Cousin's wedding but you have a conflict and cannot attend
  • College buddy, not extremely close. Destination wedding but stateside.
  • Friend from HS, local wedding in the city we all grew up in. Bachelor party was pricey.

How old is the OP? Dang, $500? I wouldn't expect near that from my roommates if I was in my 20's

I guess I should clarify, we're all in our my mid 30s

No way I'm giving $500 on top of travelling my family to Mexico for it

Imo, it's very tacky do have a destination wedding AND ask for $$. The bride/groom should communicate to everyone that is attending need not give a gift.

This. For a destination wedding , your presence is the gift.

It's the new cryptocurrency I started. The price has already tripled since I started this post. Send me a DM if you're interested in finding out more.

I would DM you to buy Toucoin, but I can't pay the membership fees of Texags in Toucoin for DMs and I don't have Toucoin.

As for the op question. Does prima nocta apply?

I'm a travel agent who does a lot of destination weddings. I agree, no $$/gifts needed if traveling out of country.

I have always paid for an excursion for the couple on a destination wedding but money has gotten so tight i would think nowadays just showing up and a small gift is enough

Japanese weddings don't do gifts, just cash. There is the expectation that all guests give a minimum of $300, but if you are a relative, a superior at work, or if you were invited as a couple rather than as an individual (no plus ones) that number jumps to a minimum of $500. Wedding venues set their prices based on what they know the couple will be getting on average in gift money.

Attended two weddings this June, and in both instances we flew from Knoxville to Boston.

$250--My wife's former boss' daughter (whom we never met until the wedding). He came to our daughter's wedding last year, and they've kept in touch for many years.

$500--My wife's former babysitter, who is like our daughter. Never thought she'd marry, but finally found the right guy. First marriage for both...they're both 40.

To be fair, one wedding is still under planning phase.

The other they didn't really ask just listed it as part of their website. Something along the lines of "If you want to donate to our honeymoon fund, use this link, etc.". I have $50 and thought it was sufficient.

Former students inviting me to their weddings. Been giving $250. Offset by nice dinners and open bars at the receptions we have attended.

Easy to do when 500 yen equals about $4.

If inflation is a factor, I would suggest an hot air balloon
