For someone who cares about this family dearly, you sure are putting a lot of **** about them on a very well read message board.

If you care about them dearly, there appear to be 3 options.

1) Talk to them like adults about it.
2) Call the proper authorities if you feel there is child negligence going on.
3) MInd your own ****ing business. If you found a way to get paid an extra $50,000 a year from your job that wasn't illegal, would you want your dumb-ass neighbor who says they are your friends tattling on you?

Had to google CNA. I'm impressed that the parent works for the Center for Naval Analyses. That sounds like an interesting career. just joking about that part, but I did have to google for CNA.

Sorry, I'm no help on this topic, once I discovered what it's about...out of my domain entirely so I'm not even going to read the rest. Good luck though.

ETA: ok, I lied. I did read it all. Tough situation. I have feelings similar to OP. Not sure I'd act on them. I can definitely understand the pull of alcohol or worse, to dull the pain.

2nd thought...I'd probably just bury the thinking or at least just keep it between me and my spouse (unless I feel the child is being mistreated, of course)

Stinks that it's taxpayers, but it's what I suspected, because, where else would it come from.

There should be some oversight, IMO, or means of reporting fraud. I'm not suggesting reporting because it's just a tough situation. But, if the kids well-being is endangered, that's a different situation. Still, a very tough situation.

I share your sentiments that it would be frustrating to watch unfold. I also share the sentiment that it's a tricky one to actually do anything about. I would probably end up keeping my mouth shut and if the behavior continued to bother me, I'd withdraw somewhat from the friendship, but I'm fairly conflict averse. No idea what the "right" thing to do is.

Their drinking will probably catch up to them sooner or later. You could frame it as concern for their well being rather than the money thing, but even that has the potential to damage friendships if the other party isn't ready to hear it.

Is she really putting in 60 hours a week caring for her son and doing the job? Probably. Just not M-F during school hours.

Terrible. The kid gets an injury, she "earns" more money.

So how much does an outside nurse make? If it's more than the mom, then the state is saving money.

Not if she parks him in front of cartoons from 3-9 every evening.

I'll say one more thing and let it go when I was 13, my mom's cousins and their 1 year old son were killed in broad daylight by a drunk driver. If you have knowledge that these people are drunk to the point of not being able to care for any of their kids, you have to call cps or something. Because the day the ambulance is at the house because that kid drowned in the bath tub or choked to death or whatever is coming if the parents are alcoholics, you will hate yourself forever. If it means burning a friendship to know that a kid is being raised by responsible adults, you need to do so. Immediately.

I have a hard time believing the child is on Medicaid (and it would be Medicaid not Medicare; Medicare is for over 65) because until the child is an adult the parents income determines eligibility. $200k per year or even 100k far exceeds the limit. I think these parents for some reason are blowing smoke which is strange.

Is there a social security disability income? I am not familiar with any of this.

They make it other people's business when they talk about it so openly. It's not like OP has had to do any digging to learn all this.

I would stop being friends with this person.

An acquaintance of mine in Durango is younger than me and trying to grift the system to get permanent disability bc of a back injury which didn't actually happen. Just another $ of your tax payer money being set on fire. There are many people who do not mind screwing over their fellow humans.

I have friends with a kid in a similar situation, who has nurses with him most of the time. It's a lot of work even with nurses, if he's not there with them all of the time, he doesn't really know everything she is having to do.

How do you know all that? You should probably mind your own business.

Obviously, I'm being facetious. Imagine they started doing what the OP described. That wouldn't concern you at all?

I get what you're saying, she might be doing a bad job, but the amount of work required is a lot ( if she is actually doing it). Hopefully the kid is getting taken care of.

Tough situation for a parent to have a kid in this situation. I would mind my own business. Really easy to judge folks without having walked in their shoes 24/7/365, and newsflash, these home nurse aides are usually looking for the easiest path too. Busybodies tend to know a lot less than they think they know. If it bugs you, then don't be friends

This.

Mind your own business.

Let her drive drunk.

Let her abandon her kid every night for hours to the point he gets bedsores.

Let her keep sponging off the taxpayers to feed her addiction.

You realize that a 60hr week is only roughly 8.5hr days. Shes providing for him 7 days a week, likely longer on weekends than weekdays. If anything id say shes probably under counting some hours.

You'd be surprised how many do. And again, I think busybodies know a lot less than they think they do. Also doesn't take much to get to 60 hours

There is but it is also dependent of parental income. Base on the op these parents would not qualify. The child would qualify after adulthood. The exception is if the kid has als (lou Gehrig's disease) and I think another highly terminal disease. I still say they are exaggerating for some odd reason. Either way they are not people I'd hang with.

Another drama queen. You and OP would probably hit it off. Of course, that's assuming you don't have have any vices OP disapproves of....

so you are saying that a CNA with alcohol in their system during working hours should still be paid?

Interesting stance.

Just having alcohol in your system doesn't mean you are impaired in any way that will effect your performance. Just like a DUI starts at .08 and not .001, the amount of alcohol someone ingests and their level of impairment can't be measured in just x drinks in a social media post. Shes still likely under counting actual hours being she is his parent and is with him more than a normal nurse who goes home after their shift.
